So now they have more screen real estate to actually put things in the dynamic island instead of hiding them around those sensors and cameras. Maybe they are planning on moving notification banners to the island?
It would certainly be easier to get the full screen look they're aiming for had they gone with the power button Touch ID a la iPadsJust bring back Touch ID. Why? Because in my experience, Touch ID has been far superior to Face ID. Ideally, a high-end iPhone, given how expensive it is, would include support for both Face ID and Touch ID, so the user could choose which one to use. But really, all I want is for Touch ID to come back.
Apple's current implementation of TouchID in power buttons is meh. And that might be what we get in a folding phone because FaceID would be needed under two screens (outer and inner). No thank you, as in my experience faceID is far superior to TouchID, case in point: iPad Air TouchID sucess rate about 60% bs iPhone (13PM and now 17PM 99.99%
Well, I don't like the idea of foldable enough to switch to Android LOL.Apple's current implementation of TouchID in power buttons is meh. And that might be what we get in a folding phone because FaceID would be needed under two screens (outer and inner).
But an Android phone with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor can unlock the phone faster than the screen wakes up. It's pretty awesome.
The iPhone 18 Pro’s will have a new Samsung main camera sensor that will reduce noise in low light and focus response times willI want a bigger main camera sensor after 4 years of the same one. Ideally, a square sensor.
Variable aperture is a nice to have but only after they improve the sensor.
seems unlikely given the target is 2027 for all screen everythingDont trust this...Apple will shrink even more tha faceID island and after that maybe so at least 2-3 more years
Apple just can't bear the thought of not sticking out in order to differentiate itself. If this rumor is true it'll be the ugliest phone screen on the market. Selfie camera at the corner of the screen is the worst possible configuration they could've come up with. I'd take a notch and DI like we have now over a corner punch hole cutout.Haha, if that’s true the iPhone 18 will look like the Galaxy phones from the S10 era with their off-centre selfie cameras. I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple did this to differentiate the iPhone from the vast majority of Android phones which simply have a punch-hole in the centre of the front screen.
And it’s a terrible solution. Have you used one? As someone else in this thread has said, the success rate on the iPad TouchID is really bad.It would certainly be easier to get the full screen look they're aiming for had they gone with the power button Touch ID a la iPads
Make it right.. give us back a full screen, no island, turn the camera control into touch id and action button into a camera control button.. done!
I have used it and I found it much better than Face IDAnd it’s a terrible solution. Have you used one? As someone else in this thread has said, the success rate on the iPad TouchID is really bad.
There will be an Air 2 in 2026, even Apple released two years of the iPhone mini… You can see how crazy those guys are on MacRumors living in the past… 😉If there is no Air 2 for a while, I will be keeping this one.
It's too bad they didn't use that opportunity to implement multi Audio sources ... Android has had it for a whileI didn’t think I’d ever said that but I love the Dynamic Island.
It allows quick app switching (GPS..) and controls (music..) that permits to avoid closing the main application that is open which can sometimes make you loose what’s being done on it
I guess until it’s really thereHow many times do we need to hear about the same leak
Are you really posting photos of Apple’s off-centre cameras to prove that there won’t be an off-centre camera on the front?I really don't see that happening. For one, it would make the iPhone look too much like an Android smartphone. Secondly, it would throw off its balanced look.
Trying to keep a balanced look is why theis where it is on the back of the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max

instead of in the center/middle

correct; not only is it superior in all situations, it is much more secure than touchID. No need to bring that back whatsoeverNo thank you, as in my experience faceID is far superior to TouchID, case in point: iPad Air TouchID sucess rate about 60% bs iPhone (13PM and now 17PM 99.99%
You almost sound as if you were new to MR ...How many times do we need to hear about the same leak
I love saying “MacRumors” to the SNL skit “MacGruber”. Sorry if you can’t ever get that out of your mind.macrumors gotta macrumor, man...
