So now they have more screen real estate to actually put things in the dynamic island instead of hiding them around those sensors and cameras. Maybe they are planning on moving notification banners to the island?

Just bring back Touch ID. Why? Because in my experience, Touch ID has been far superior to Face ID. Ideally, a high-end iPhone, given how expensive it is, would include support for both Face ID and Touch ID, so the user could choose which one to use. But really, all I want is for Touch ID to come back.
It would certainly be easier to get the full screen look they're aiming for had they gone with the power button Touch ID a la iPads

No thank you, as in my experience faceID is far superior to TouchID, case in point: iPad Air TouchID sucess rate about 60% bs iPhone (13PM and now 17PM 99.99%
Apple's current implementation of TouchID in power buttons is meh. And that might be what we get in a folding phone because FaceID would be needed under two screens (outer and inner).

But an Android phone with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor can unlock the phone faster than the screen wakes up. It's pretty awesome.

Well, I don't like the idea of foldable enough to switch to Android LOL.
Thing is, sounds like Apple is taking a conservative approach which is fine, just not for me at this point in time (or next September)

Haha, if that’s true the iPhone 18 will look like the Galaxy phones from the S10 era with their off-centre selfie cameras. I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple did this to differentiate the iPhone from the vast majority of Android phones which simply have a punch-hole in the centre of the front screen.

The thermal advantages, if they exist, wouldn’t be a direct result of the stacking or co-packaging. Putting more heat flux in a smaller area, especially if it prevents back of die access on the APU, will make thermal management more challenging. The alternate packaging could offer more space for the thermal solution, however. They can always dial back the consumption of the APU to compensate, and there’s a small savings in pj/bit due to proximity of the memory physically. That could easily be cancelled out by speed increases or widening the bus, however.

I want a bigger main camera sensor after 4 years of the same one. Ideally, a square sensor.

Variable aperture is a nice to have but only after they improve the sensor.
The iPhone 18 Pro’s will have a new Samsung main camera sensor that will reduce noise in low light and focus response times will
Improve as well.

Apple just can't bear the thought of not sticking out in order to differentiate itself. If this rumor is true it'll be the ugliest phone screen on the market. Selfie camera at the corner of the screen is the worst possible configuration they could've come up with. I'd take a notch and DI like we have now over a corner punch hole cutout.

The “Dynamic Island” is software based and will still appear. The notch will be gone, as per the old roadmap. Allegedly.

And it’s a terrible solution. Have you used one? As someone else in this thread has said, the success rate on the iPad TouchID is really bad.

Make it right.. give us back a full screen, no island, turn the camera control into touch id and action button into a camera control button.. done!

I would prefer some sort of execution of Touch ID either as a replacement for Face ID or as a supplement.

I very much liked it better than Face ID.

I didn’t think I’d ever said that but I love the Dynamic Island.
It allows quick app switching (GPS..) and controls (music..) that permits to avoid closing the main application that is open which can sometimes make you loose what’s being done on it
It's too bad they didn't use that opportunity to implement multi Audio sources ... Android has had it for a while

Like swiping left/right to switch between sources , Spotify, YouTube, safari, Apple Music

I really don't see that happening. For one, it would make the iPhone look too much like an Android smartphone. Secondly, it would throw off its balanced look.

Trying to keep a balanced look is why the :apple: is where it is on the back of the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max

Are you really posting photos of Apple’s off-centre cameras to prove that there won’t be an off-centre camera on the front?

correct; not only is it superior in all situations, it is much more secure than touchID. No need to bring that back whatsoever

And Apple was supposed to release a new ATV and AirTags in 2025, so perhaps we shouldn’t give undue credence to rumors.
