Brown? Makes me flashback to an earlier time.

Front camera implementation looks like literally $200 smartphone . If Apple can put Face ID under the screen, so they also can but this front camera also under the screen… Every f years Apple disappointing me more and more

Under-display cameras are difficult to implement without compromises. They tend to be lower-resolution and just not as crisp and vibrant. The tech behind it is advancing, but I don't think Apple could go from an 18MP auto-adapting selfie cam to, say, a tiny 9MP camera just to avoid a cutout.

The foldable iPhone might have an under-display cam for the folding screen, but it probably wouldn't be the only selfie cam and would make sense with the iPad-in-your-pocket philosophy.

What’s the difference vs this year? The biggest innovation Apple added to a phone is usb-c

Unless they want to change the Dynamic Island/Live Activities UI significantly, I don't see why they'd want to put the camera top left. Putting it in the middle makes it possible to use the same UI with an active Live Activity, and just have the camera cutout without any Live Activity.

They could of course put the camera top left and then keep the Dynamic Island UI as-is regardless, but where would they put the time then?

None of those are new features. The current phone has a processor. The current phone has a screen. The current phone has cameras and they’re all perfectly fine. 😴

1) You shouldn't upgrade your phone every single year.
2) You could make this same statement every single year.

A lot of posts commenting on my slightly-tongue-in-cheek option of travelling without roaming and using free satellites ...

(I expect satellite access to be very slow, and data-only eSIMS are very cheap. It's a hassle when I travel through multiple countries in Asia, but it's still cheap enough.)

However, FYI:

Many replies stated that one has to be totally off grid to use a satellite connection.

On my phone (at home) I turned off WiFi and manually selected a competitor mobile provider so that I'd not have access. Immediately, the satellite option became available.

regarding item #9 of 12:"Apple-designed N1 chip or newer" -- Apple's latest (and only) N-series chip so far is the N1, released just a few months ago with the iPhones 17, iPhone Air, and the M5 iPad Pro. I haven't experienced it myself but understand it's pretty good.

Has there been any reporting (or even rumor-ing) about Apple's presumably planned successors to the N1? An N1X, or an N2? How might such future chips improve on the already solid N1? Possibly support for 320 MHz channels for Wi-Fi 7, or more power efficient?

I'd skip my every 3 year policy on iPhone replacement, if they put out a brown phone. If they pick the right shade/sheen, it'll be welcomed by mod culture fashion. Personally, I'd go one step further and make a warm industrial antique copper brown metal patina color, where every model is uniquely steampunk.
Im more a design type of person, the recent iphones are terrible without a case besides the base model which is ok at best, its like they neglected hand feel

Is it a recession or are you trying to convince yourself you don’t need the new one. Most people don’t need to upgrade because most phones are fine but calling it worse while everything gets an upgrade is a cope mechanism. Or maybe you are one of the 2 people who like the camera control button then its a recession.

I'm not "coping", I have no plans on upgrading next year, typically changes like this last more than one year - long enough that they'll still matter when I do want to upgrade.
  1. Under-screen Face ID
I highly doubt the gen one of these will be as reliable as what we have now - maybe by the time I upgrade it'll be better?
  2. Front camera in top-left corner of the screen
This accomplishes nothing but ruining the functionality of the Dynamic Island - where is the second component of the live activities going to be now
  3. A simplified Camera Control button with no swipe gestures
Camera control is one of the best innovations from Apple in recent years, I'd really hate to see something happen to it because people who don't have to use it are complaining about it
  4. Apple-designed C1X or C2 modem for 5G/LTE cellular connectivity
If it's C1X, mmWave will no longer be supported
  5. New color options under consideration: burgundy, brown, and purple
I don't think it's a hot take to say that the current colour options are better than coffee bean red, doodoo brown and nether portal purple

I like these new features and my 14 is getting old. But Considering where the memory prices are going I the we can conclude that iPhone 18 is going to be expensive.
I think apple will keep it the same price so that they can raise the price on the 20th anniversary iphone in 2027

Reverse charging was born first in 2018 and I’m still waiting for the iPhone gets it as well. As for 2026 it will be 8 years. I guess it is as big challenge for the engineer team as calculator app for the iPad.

It only needs one feature to be a massive hit.

1. Revert all of the Liquid Ass software garbage including all horrible UI changes and all horrible destruction of device performance.

nice.. incremental updates .

Hoping the 20th anniversary device will be something very cool
