For now, rumors have settled on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max featuring a smaller Dynamic Island, and now a leaker has revealed its alleged size.

The account "Ice Universe" today claimed the Dynamic Island cutout on the iPhone 18 Pro models will be approximately 35% narrower than it is on the iPhone 17 Pro models. Specifically, they said it will have a width of around 13.5mm, down from around 20.7mm, and they shared the mockup image above to show what it would look like.

These measurements refer to the default size of the Dynamic Island while the iPhone screen is turned on, and this includes the extra black pixels that surround the actual cutouts for Face ID sensors and the front camera. While showing Live Activities and other information, the Dynamic Island temporarily becomes wider.

An earlier report from The Information indicated that the iPhone 18 Pro models will feature under-screen Face ID. As a result, the publication said the devices would have only a hole-punch front camera in the top-left corner of the screen, rather than the current pill-shaped cutout for the front camera and Face ID sensors. However, the latest word is that only Face ID's flood illuminator will be moved under the screen this year, meaning that Apple will only be able to shrink the pill-shaped cutout rather than remove it entirely.

According to display industry expert Ross Young, who has a very good track record, the smaller Dynamic Island will last through at least 2027. So, it could take at least a few more years until the iPhone finally gets a truly seamless display.

"Ice Universe" has leaked some accurate iPhone dimensions in the past, giving them credibility, but they do not have a perfect track record.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro models in September.

Is the water rising or is the land receding? Hard to tell. Prepare the life rafts! Women and children first.

It's pretty clear that Apple's strategy is just to shrink it until it's gone 🤣

Here is my best guess as to whats going on between the rumors of them moving the Front Facing Camera. I think its still going to be centered on the Iphone 18 Pro Max, (and the front of the iPhone Fold) But when the fold opens, it will be in the corner and that's where this confusing is coming from because when the iPhone Fold is open, you naturally cant have a centered camera, because thats the hinge where it will fold, so it has to be moved to one side or the other.

My guess is the first gen iPhone fold WONT have any kind of faceID. It appears just too thin and thats consistent with the rumors. It will have the same camera on the front of the entire line, just without the FaceID components, and the whole system will rely on a side mounted touch ID, maybe even in the power button.

Then the next version of the fold, maybe will be thicker and even bigger, and they will include a slimmed down under the screen version of FaceID.

Remember, the iphone x came out first, and was the smaller phone, but the 11 had both a standard and bigger size. thats why i think this year we will get the iPhone fold as the flagship phone of the year, but the next version we will get a bigger size maybe?

I think eventually the Folds and Pros blend into one device down the road and what is considered a pro phone now becomes the standard.

Please stop saying "Dynamic Island". You're talking about the hardware cutout. Dynamic Island is a separate feature, which provides parking spaces for collapsed Live Activities, and while the size of the cutout will get smaller, Dynamic Island has a larger minimum size so that the LA's are readable. I'd expect the Dynamic Island's appearance to become more glassy in the future, as the need to hide the cutout diminishes.

It makes sense that the fold has the camera to one side on the outside , but FaceID could be on the inner screen under the plateau, not centred as well.

This is what I would have assumed for their next step, and I hope this is the direction they go in. People have just gotten used to dynamic island (many are still on their first dynamic island iphone), why make a big change moving it to a corner and simultaneously throwing off the symmetry?

Hopefully it’s a few pixels shorter vertically too, if so it will be really tempting to upgrade…

When they reduced the size of the notch in the iPhone 13 I initially thought it might make more of a difference in daily use, but frankly the difference was extremely minor and I'd expect the same to be true here.

Maybe they can add another notification to the Dynamic Island without encroaching on reception, battery and time but I don't think it will make a significant difference for most users.

It's fine. It's going in the right direction, just don't expect any miracles.
