Wild to see people complain. Like if you don’t need a large battery then just buy the base model or the Air

In surveys camera and battery always get the most votes. And the 18 Pro (Max) will have upgraded camera and battery. If it wasn’t for the RAM crisis which will increase the price of the 18 series, then I’m sure the 18 Pro (Max) would have sold more than any other iPhone before

I may be in the minority position, but I use a MagSafe wallet and case and was growing tired of the heft. So, my initial reaction was to consider the Pro or Air, but the actual suspected increases don’t seem all that bad. However, still looking to possibly shift to a smaller /lighter phone since I also use my iPad for larger screen browsing.

I get that the people who use their iPhones as professional tools won't really care, but the 17 Pro Max is the absolute maximum in terms of overall weight and thickness that I'm willing to accept in a daily driver smartphone.

Does Apple using big sensor camera for this iPhone 18 pro?
Yes the 18 Pro Max camera sensor will be a big upgrade and will have a new Ultra-large sensor:

“The iPhone 18 Pro Max is rumored to feature an "ultra-large" 48-megapixel main camera sensor (measuring 1/1.12-inches) paired with a mechanical variable aperture. This significant hardware bump—matching sensor sizes like the Sony LYT-901—is designed to vastly improve low-light performance and dynamic range while allowing manual and automatic control over the depth of field.”

For someone that knows nothing about cameras and lenses... Is this something that improves regular "1x photos from the hip"? Like 99% of my photos are indoors in crappy lighting where I use the regular 1x lens. Or is these improvements more on the lens(?) that is like 5x or something that people use to take photos of a leaf 30 feet away?

I wonder if we'll ever get an iPhone again?

You know, something small, light, pocketable and easy to use one handed?

Not everyone needs or wants a pocket super computer, Chris Nolan IMAX imaging, with a massive battery and "vapor chamber cooling".

This is getting so ridiculous.

Look at the sales numbers for the 12 Mini and 13 Mini. Almost no one got them

Instead, they just buy the base model. Current year base model if they want it fancy. Last year base model if they want something less expensive

Apple's upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max could be noticeably thicker and heavier than its predecessor, suggesting a trade-off behind the device's rumored larger battery.

iPhone-17-Pro-Cosmic-Orange.jpg

Chinese leaker Ice Universe today claimed the iPhone 18 Pro Max will measure around 9mm thick and weigh approximately 240 grams. That would make the device around 0.25mm thicker and roughly 7 grams heavier than the current iPhone 17 Pro Max.

The latest claim comes off the back of recent regulatory filings indicating the iPhone 18 Pro Max will feature a 5,391mAh battery in China and a 5,567mAh battery in the U.S. – an increase of nearly 500mAh over the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Ice Universe suggested the added thickness and weight are a direct result of the larger battery, but Apple is also said to be adopting a new type of vapor chamber that uses stainless steel, which could also be a contributing factor.

The rumor builds on an earlier claim that Apple's next flagship could become the heaviest iPhone ever. If so, it would have to be heavier than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which also weighed 240 grams, so it may turn out that there are only milligram-level differences between the two.

Apple's use of titanium instead of stainless steel made the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro models lighter than the iPhone 14 Pro models. Apple then switched away from titanium to less-dense aluminum for the iPhone 17 Pro models, but internal changes and slightly thicker designs bumped up their weight again.

The ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ Max are expected to launch alongside Apple's first foldable iPhone this September.

Couple the 5565 mAh battery with the 2nm A20 Pro chip, LTPO+ display and much larger stainless steel vapor chamber and you have an impressively powerful 18 Pro Max.

We've covered that endlessly.
It released into COVID (both models) and never got another shot with normal market conditions.

It's time for another attempt.

They need not be anything more than updated every 3 years or so and it will satiate us smaller device users perfectly.

We should ALL be advocating for this.
More device diversity is better for literally everyone.

Kind of wild when you consider Chinese foldables with a 7,000 battery, pencil support and 3 screens are lighter
Those are silicon carbon batteries, which we have no medium term reliability data on. Apple, Google and Samsung won’t just jump onto that bandwagon without being very cautious.

The current base model (17e) is huge and heavy! It's a monster compared to the 12mini or 13mini. We need an iPhone that's the size and weight (88grams) of the iPod Touch. It's technically possible.

A big and heavy phone 😕. I remain at peace with my iPhone Air, which covers all my needs. Plus, there comes a price increase...

More device diversity is better for literally everyone.
Actually, Steve Jobs believed the exact opposite. When he returned to Apple in 1997, his first major move was slashing the massively diverse Mac lineup down to just four products.

More device diversity is absolutely not better for everyone. Every additional SKU fragments Apple's supply chain, dilutes engineering focus, and most importantly, forces third-party developers to spend time redesigning and QA-testing their apps for edge-case screen sizes.

The broader market has overwhelmingly voted with its wallet: 6.1 inches is the baseline people actually want to buy

Mine is still at 99% after 1,5 years

iPhones are gonna develop an eating disorder if you keep talking about how thick they are when they really aren’t! lol.
