They spent 2 years selling us titanium. And yes it’s a change but why? I remember the bloggers moaned about the two tone effect. Bloggers are now dictating sales. Yes price is part of the reason for slow Air sales. But isn’t the rumour Orange will be ditched too? Then in 2027 the entire design will be ditched again and Apple want to change the design every year. Like Samsung apple are dropping products and changing too much.
Now you're just complaining for the sake of it. The devices around us are practically a miracle but you're spending your time focusing on complaining about them. We literally have the whole internet in our pocket. Go touch some grass. They went back to aluminium because it handles heat better. Changing orange in the future. Yes, they switch up colours. Deal with it. You have at least 12 months to buy the orange phone. Have at it.

I totally noticed it too, the minute you put a case on with a mag-safe "ring" on you know its not lined up right, SJ would have never let that out the door.....its also why the Apple clear cases have a white back to cover up the mistake.
For MagSafe rings you may have a point there. I don't use one so I don't see that. As to Steve not letting this out the door? I would not agree with you there. He let the 5c and its case out.

I think it would look nicer if they had just added a glass donut to the back under the magnetic ring and made more of the device aluminium.

Trying to minimize it makes it more noticeable. It's uncanny valley. The silver phone is the best looking of the three because it doesn't even bother.

Not happy the cameras keep protruding, wish Apple would shrink the them
Just curious cause I see this often, but why does protruding cameras bother people? I find it strange that people would rather have worse cameras than a protruding camera, so I'm genuinely asking!

It's not complicated. They moved to titanium to reduce weight, but it made the phone operating hotter, so they figured out aluminium worked better after all with heat dissipation. What's more, this is not like iPhone 16 Pro which featured glass over the entire back. This is about decreasing the amount of rear glass to increase the amount of rear aluminium to aid heat dissipation. This combined with the chamber makes the phone more useable. The rumour for 18 Pro isn't a reversal of this, it's purely a colour change. Did you read the article?
What about using titanium for the frame ? I think money and not heat dissipation drove the decision towards aluminum

Honestly, I didn’t even notice.
I guess that may be important for the 10 people that don't use a case.

Good. They realized they can't splinter their base that want both nice design and best quality.

The abhorrently ugly 17 pro design will be a small black mark in their design history. The Air is terrific looking but it's hard to compromise on that camera when you from from having three.

Go back to designing beautiful products that are also your top end product. This was a real Microsoft level move on their part.

They need to bring black back cause the other colors are hideous and am trying to find cases that hide as much of this phone as possible. Seriously don’t know what they are thinking as it’s so damn ugly!!!

Put the crayons set away Cook and make professional grade devices that go with the Pro colors. You wouldn’t make a XDR display or keyboard set in that hideous orange. Don’t do it with what we use even more all day every day.

Worst iPhone ever (and not only for the colors). A good example to use when somebody speaks about “Steve wouldn’t allowed that…”. Steve actually allowed a lot of weird design choices in the past.
I'll buy it when it looks like an Apple device again. This was the first year I've skipped getting a phone since the iPhone 7.
And exactly WHO decides what an “Apple device” looks like ? I guess it’s Apple, and not you (or me). So you comment has very little meaning.
That would certainly help de-uglify the current iPhone17.
iPhone 17 isn’t ugly at all, and it is a single tone device. The rumors is about iPhone 17 Pro.

I didn't expect to see people upset the lose mismatched colors. The current state just looks silly to me. In reality, it is covered by a case 95% of tye time.

I can't remember the last time I saw the back of an iPhone in person, other than when changing a case...
