If they change their mind and keep the two-tone look and the plateau I'd go with a more polished version of this. A bit like 1st gen iPhone SE.

I dont think its intentionally 2 tone at all.....

If they really meant to make a genuine 2 tone phone they would have picked contrasting colours for the case and glass....

What they have instead opted to do is try to match the colour of the glass with the colour of the aluminium chassis and as they are made out of completely different materials then of course they will never look quite the same.

To suggest the 17pro is a 2 tone phone by design seems wrong to me.

A step in the right direction but still a no-go for me as long as that fugly camera bump's part of the design.

I would be happy if Apple dropped the whole "two-tone" design on the iMac as well. Everyone loves the bright, vibrant colors on the back of iMacs, and most everyone I know hates the faded/desaturated color on the front.

The iPhone is the same thing for me. Ultimately I really don't care because it's just a tool I use, but it would still be nice if it looked more unified in color.
It makes it look cheap but cases cover it anyway.

hm...thought Steve Jobs left this world when the 4S came out?
He might have some input for future product though.
lol, you have a point, Steve died two years prior.

Exhibit A: a mouse you cannot easily tell by feel which direction it's facing—a obvious fundamental design flaw which Steve overlooked and Ive retardedly still likes. Tbh pretty much all mice Apple have ever made haven't been good. Their keyboards could be improved (improved feel, slightly more travel and drink-spillage resistance), though their trackpads are the industry bar.

Of course, they design a phone I’m happy with, and then they say “Actually, nah”
So let me get this right new iPhone delayed cancelled. iPhone 18 delayed to March 2027 and now the IPhone Pro reverts back to a similar design to the IPhone 16 Pro. Basically everything new cancelled what next the Pro moves back to titanium? I can see that being the next rumour!

So in end we have the same old iPhone just what I said it’s a matured market people want heavy phones same size ect. Fold will most likley flop too. Same for the curved glass model in 2027. In the end we will have a iPhone that looks the same every year.
Folks! All they're doing is trying to make the colors match. Let's keep some perspective here. :p

Most people keep them in cases so the two toned look doesn't really matter.
9% of iPhones buyers in the US and 13% globally don't use a case, but I bet many of those are the early adopter of new models. It's possible 1/4 or 1/3 new iPhone buyers for new models don't use a case. A sizeable number out the gate. Either way, you'd be surprised how much the colour inside the case matters to those who will buy a case. Some like clear cases too, I know I do.

Well it's unibody because it's aluminum. But from the rumors so far, looks like they're be switching to frame again soon (and probably ditching aluminum)
You may be misinterpreting the post. The rumour here is painting a picture of no physical design changes, but adjustments to colouring to tone down the two-tone look.

In this example the glass would need to be darker and a slightly different hue to blend more seamlessly:

Likely impossible to make them 100% match so they chose to make them complement.

I have a chrome Delta shower faucet. Different parts are different substrates (metals and plastic) so even though they are all chromed, they don’t quite match. And over time they will age differently.

There are new rumors coming out everyday so we won't know until next year. But from the QC issues of the 17s so far, Apple will likely make changes to address them.
I don't believe the 17 Pro two-tone look is related to some of QC issues (such as pink-ification), but rather it was a conscious aesthetic choice to highlight the change in material, like white plastic selected to compliment silver aluminium instead of silver plastic trying to hide it. Apple will sometimes compliment adjacent material colours (white with silver), they can contrast (black with silver) and other times they will chose to blend (grey with silver).
