I have waited 5 years to upgrade my base 12 to 17 pro at launch. I will wait at least 3 more years with 17 Pro before considering an upgrade. I am happy to follow what's the cominng each year in the meantime.

A20 Pro chip looks insane after seeing first GB6 and GB7 benchmarks I was not expecting that. Everything else was kind of expected (not bad dont get me wrong)

Was originally going for the 18 Pro in black but decided I'm going to hold off and try for the Duo in Night Sky. Seeing if I can use that as a replacement for my old iPad instead of buying a new Mini. I have the iPhone Air now and it sounds like the cameras on the Duo are similar, so I'm not too worried about that. If there's one thing I miss it's the ultra wide camera, which I will gain back on the Duo.
I too have an Air, but I am thinking of the Duo as a plus one. I am on T-Mobile and want to see how the companion SIM thing works.

I don't miss much about living back east, but being able to get up at a normal time, have my coffee, and casually open up the Apple store right on time was nice. This year I am out west and need to get up by 4:40 to be prepped for 5:00am. Ooof.

From a standard 15, the difference will be huge. You gain telephoto, 25% better low light performance, much better between zooms with all 48MP sensors with image stabilization. But if you don’t take low light, telephoto or zoom a lot,
maybe not enough for you.
Thanks. I was really hoping they upgraded the 18 Pro with the stacked Samsung sensor and increased the size similar to that on the Oppo ultra. I can’t believe it’s the same sensor as last year.

I made the preorder for 18 pro max glacier. Question - do people here expect it to sell out really quickly? Long day tomorrow and late night tonight so not going to get up super early and place the order.

I am wondering if 1 more year with the 11Pro would be acceptable or if now is the time to upgrade (to the 18Pro)? All of these "guesses" as to the 20th anniversary iPhone - but they are just guesses and we know what the 18Pro has.

What if you’re coming from an iPhone 15 regular? How much better do you think the cameras will be ?
It will be noticeably better. I record a lot of video with my iPhone 16 Pro and I can definitely notice how much better it was than the 15 Pro. So this 18 Pro with an improved sensor and low-light performance would be worthy of an upgrade if you place high value on the cameras.

I have the Pro Max and I can tell you that since iOS 26 when you use battery saver mode, it tends to lag. Even with iOS 27 RC on regular mode there are still some issues where it tends to lag if you're using something simple like Safari and Amazon Music though it depends also on the website. They kind of fixed it with beta five, but now it's worse. At least for right now, the battery overheating is less than what it was before. Im just ready for 12 gbs of ram or higher so they apps dont restart like they do after a while.

From experience, does anyone know when they start having the new models, including the duo in the store to test out? Is it typically now in the next few days or is it after they do the pre-order?

I hated when we had to wake up for 3 am on the east coast to preorder lol

This is the first year I’m skipping in a decade. There really isn’t anything going on to justify upgrading from my 17 Pro Max.

If you have a iPhone 17 Pro, it’s not even worth upgrading.
You may be right. Historically, you would certainly be right for most people. But let's see what kind of AI-focused on-device performance becomes available with the A20/M6 + current OSes + Siri AI+. Given how much so many people (or their employers) are paying for frontier LLM services--particularly given how few queries actually need to go to such services--let's see if a more rapid hardware update becomes a wise financial decision for these tens of millions of people.

People forget quickly, but we have gone through cliff technological leaps semi-regularly. Lots of people saw immediate, meaningful impact from moving from a 2G to 3G (and then from 3G to 4G/LTE) phones, year over year. Entire use cases became possible that were simply not before. The carriers were so surprised at some of these upgrade "super-cycles" that availability was often very low for months after the initial release. We'll see if anything like that happens with these phones once they are out in the wild. Apple did admit they misread the voracious appetite for the Mac mini and Mac Studio because of LLM usage; could they see the same buying demand with devices with these new chips that have newer/more/better accelerators, more memory bandwidth, etc? Their decision to limit the M6 lineup to one SKU and advance the M7 lineup should probably tell us that they see AI usage skyrocketing even further--but we'll have to see how it actually plays out.
