oh my sweet summer childI dunno why but I totally missed or forget base iPhone 17 had 8gb
Thought they all were 12gb this year
oh my sweet summer child
historically I think they've always upgraded the pros before doing so for the baseI remember the non pro in past years having less ram too, I just genuinely forgot
Yes yeah, apples cheap. I’m on board with already knowing this lol
Last years iPhone 16 was 8gb which matched 8gb in the pro
Lies, that's not possible.Next thing you know it will also have a faster cpu & gpu, and new colors.
the post I quoted said most people, not enthusiasts in MacRumors. Do you think most users even know how much RAM their iPhone 17 has?People who hate seeing their apps unable to hold memory while switching around apps just don't realize that it's mostly due to RAM constraints. 16GB would be much welcomed by many, myself included.
So Apple Intelligence Siri Beta won’t work well with iPhones that have 12gb of ram and will only work fast and efficient with the 18 Pro’s that will have 16gb of ram? Classic money move by Apple 🍎 💰🤑About to head to the Apple store to return the iPhone 17 that I bought a few days ago to replace my 16. I'll wait until the 18 is out and get an additional 4GB of RAM. Not really enough features on the 17 to justify the cost since I only got the 16 a year ago. If I hadn't seen this article, I'd have kept the 17. Sorry Apple!
No one knows, but I think he meant the standard phone getting 12 GB. No one is talking about the the Pros getting 16 GB next year.So Apple Intelligence Siri Beta won’t work well with iPhones that have 12gb of ram and will only work fast and efficient with the 18 Pro’s that will have 16gb of ram? The internet: Apple sucks because they don't increase the RAMOh no! With increased RAM, the iPhone 18 models could take longer to become obsolete, and that dosen't sound like it'll fit with Tim Cook's strategy of planned obsolescence. Maybe Cook can use some software trickery to slow those iPhone 18 models down in order to nudge iPhone 18 users to buy newer models sooner than they otherwise should. After all, the interests of shareholders are more important than the interests of customers, right, Tim Cook defenders?
Has this ever been confirmed? All I am seeing online is a ton of speculation.Let’s just hope they don’t give the iPhone 18 the M4 iPad Pro treatment, where they give it 12 GB RAM but deactivate 4 GB.
They got caught flat footed with AI ram usage, and probably want to make sure that they don't have this problem again - especially if they're in a position where their AI keeps giving wrong answers because they are forced to use too small models. Can someone please tell me what they are doing on their phone that makes 8gb of ram not enough?
Since 8gb on a phone is good enough for 99% of people why not just lower the price of the phone a few bucks instead?
Confirmed in teardowns. RAM chip label matched to 2x6 GB chips. However, it may have been just in a minority of units.Has this ever been confirmed? All I am seeing online is a ton of speculation.
I've got 512GB on my Mac. Maybe shell out a little more money if you need more memory.
Because not everyone gives a crap about AI? Or needs it? Or wants it?AI. Obviously you haven’t used it at all.
Uh yes: You’re essentially speaking for yourself and projecting that to be many more people or 99% of people.Do you really need a citation for that? Have you seen any normal user on an iPhone 16 Pro Max complaining that it doesn’t have more RAM?
Normal people don’t know. That’s a fact. All of us here know how many RAM has in an iPhone that we bought, that’s why we are enthusiasts. And 8 GB or even 6 is well enough for most folks who don’t even know what WebKit is.Uh yes: You’re essentially speaking for yourself and projecting that to be many more people or 99% of people.
iPhones notoriously crap out of saved input and stuff in several normal tabs in Webkit because the lack of RAM.
There’s yet to be a situation there’s too much RAM for flagship phones—especially foldables that enable even more convenient mobile computing
Yes and no. From my understanding, most standard iOS apps have a max amount of RAM that can be allocated regardless of how much RAM there is in the phone. This per app RAM limit increases over time as iOS progresses and iPhones in general get more RAM, but the point is that an app may not necessarily get more RAM access in a 12 GB iPhone as compared to an 8 GB iPhone running the same iOS version. However, an app on a 12 GB iPhone may be able to hold onto that RAM in the background longer than on an 8 GB iPhone, because there is more RAM to go around.iPhones notoriously crap out of saved input and stuff in several normal tabs in Webkit because the lack of RAM.
