"supplier BOE has little hope of making panels for the iPhone 18 because Apple's brightness requirements for the next-generation device are unprecedentedly high"
that doesnt mean it will be higher than 17 pro....just too high for BOE supplier and they "hope"
Apple always ditches BOE as a supplier since is kind of garbage for Apple standards
Well, they already produce screens for the iPhone 17 Pro, but apparently, they stopped because of quality issues. I think this story is not well written, as the Chinese smartphones are already boasting 6000+ nits, and all of them have BOE as their key supplier.

Will this be achieved with more power or more efficiency? The latter would be a good feature. I believe current state-of-the-art conversion efficiency for OLED is 25-30%? If so there's theoretical headroom to realize brightness through efficiency, and net for the same level of brightness would mean better battery life with the same or less battery mass.

Does anyone actually struggle with current screen brightness? Seems like an unnecessary tech race.
Indoors? No. Outdoors, it's easy to hit limits.

Also I'd imagine that any technology that makes it easier for them to go brighter will also do wonders for overall longevity (because of course, anything that used to be 40-60% indoors would be 20-30% in a doubling), so I'm on board with anything that improves burn-in prevention.

Macrumors must be getting really desperate for news to pay so much attention to a phone not being available for 9 months. For years I have skipped all this guessing about the next device. When Apple announces, I simply study the features and make my decision.

I have never purchased a “new” iPhone since the first SE. I simply purchase used to get the features I want. It’s been a long time since Apple has announced a must have feature for me. I got an incredible deal on a 16e to get the translation option for my iPods.

Yes. My iPhone 15 Pro is really bad in sunlight.

The old Nokia Lumias from 10 years ago used to boost their brightness in direct sunlight, and it worked way better than the max brightness of these iPhones.

I own a construction company, and when I’m outside in the Florida sun—especially on roofs—I can’t always see my screen and have to play the shade game. I look forward to the change.

It says iPhone 18, but I'm guessing this would actually be for the iPhone 18 Pros since Apple tends to use the exact same panel for a couple generations with the base iPhones and the iPhone 17 just got a major panel upgrade.
