I have an old phone (12 PM) and my biggest issue is brightness outside. It will work for a bit, then get too hot and dim the screen. This is likely the year I will finally upgrade and what I want is to be able to use it to catch Pokemon on the beach and have the screen actually be visible for more than a minute or two.

Macrumors must be getting really desperate for news to pay so much attention to a phone not being available for 9 months. For years I have skipped all this guessing about the next device. When Apple announces, I simply study the features and make my decision.

Does brightness even matter at this point if the screen doesn't even go all the way up in summer heat as it is?
The new heat dissipation vapor chamber in the 17 Pro models is supposed to also help reduce display brightness throttling. I don't have an iPhone 17 Pro/Max so I can't test this myself, but reports are that it does help.

Though the displays of 17 and 17 Pro are fantastic for sunny outdoors, no harm in having brighter displays as sometimes it can get extremely bright and sunny outdoors. But more than that sometimes overheating can cause display to dim and it will be good if something can be done about it but in the case of 17 Pro Max, I am yet to face such issues.
