If the great design change isn't coming this year, it's probably coming with the 2018 iPhone 8 after the 2017 iPhone 7S.

The rumors would suggest skipping the iPhone 7S and jumping right into the iPhone 8, but Apple is probably going to release the 'S' version of the iPhone 7 first (I mean, unless they want to bring a new design every year, that'd be okay too).

Just like iPhone 4 - 4S - 5 - 5S, you argue the design didn't change a lot between these models. Sounds a lot like the rumors for the iPhone 7 lineup.

I think the current rumors for the 7 are even less of a jump than the 4s to the 5 was though. That had a change of materials, aspect ratio, size. The current 7 rumors suggest that we are only going to have different antenna bands! I'm sure there's additional changes that we don't know of yet but to me that's not much!

Best reason (s) to stay with my 6s. 7 will be just a slightly improved, nothing to get exited about version and the one to wait for will be the iPhone 8 in 2017. Can't see them calling the 2017 model 7s because it will or should have a complete make over. It should have more goodies as well, possibly wireless charging, slimmer bezel, AMOLED display and a few others.

If true it's amusing. Apple planning on putting out essentially a 6ss this year with the rumours of huge redesign addressing their biggest shortcomings (sub par display) coming next year.

Can't say as if want a stopgap phone.

Doesn't matter to me if its just an incremental improvement. It will be better than the 6s and I'll get the 2017 phone anyway under the Apple Upgrade program.

Looking at all the rumors it seems that the iPhone 7 will probably:

  • Look exactly the same from the front
  • Look almost the same from the back and sides
  • Have the middle two antenna bands removed but the one on the top and bottom back still there
  • Have an upgraded camera and even a dual camera for the Plus model
  • Have no 3.5mm jack
  • Have a faster processor

So this all just sounds like an iPhone 6SS and won't do their sales much good as many non techies are expecting a total redesign and the lack of 3.5mm jack might scare people away (like the single USB-C port on the Macbook).

As next year will be the 10th anniversary of the iPhone and reading all the rumors, it wouldn't surprise me if next years model will just be called iPhone (no more 4, 5, 6, 7, etc) and that will again be a big step forward (higher resolution screen, curved screen, maybe no home button, etc).

Just 5 more months :)
