iPhone 2g/data plan ?

Does The iPhone 2g require a data plan? If so, is there any way around it?

All iPhones require data plans if you are using them on AT&T's network. From what I recall, the towers will recognize an iPhone from its IMEI and automatically send you a bill/notification for adding the requisite data services (and charges) to your account.

I am not sure how this plays out with pre-paid. People have tried this, but I forget what the results were.

They don't catch 2g so if you install the fake APN, you're fine

They dont require it or automaticly add data to the iphone 2G.
They will even remove it for you if you call them.
But iphone 3G, 3GS and iphone 4 they do mandate it.

No, even if u had data the iPhone 2G doesn't support mms.
It just gives you a link with a user id and password to view the message on a webpage.
