I recently purchased a used iPhone 2G would i be paying the old data plan price of $20 which would include 200 text messages? or are the data plans all $30 plus $5 for the 200 text messages? also is the activation through itunes or would i need to take it into an AT&T store?

2g is still $20/mon. only the 3g(s) are $30

not sure if the $20 still includes texts, i know it did at one point.

Go to an AT&T store and ask them to give you a SIM and a proper plan for it. You do not need to sign a 2-year agreement because you bought the phone in the after market (or from someone else).

Also, the Data Plan for the 1st Gen iPhone is $20/month. It includes unlimited data and 200 text messages at no cost. If you want higher texting options, just ask the rep.

I already have a sim card from my Razor i was going to use in the iphone it appears i can activate the 2G iphone through itunes.

If you activate the 2G iPhone through iTunes on a new AT&T contract, it will require a new 2 year contract no matter how many times the iPhone was activated before or how many owners it has had before.

The 2G contract still includes 200 SMS.

Your RAZR SIM also works. Just be sure to Restore the phone through iTunes to go through the activation process.

That's not true unless you are buying a subsidized phone.

triple negative

where did you get your information from, made it up?

You are soooo wrong.

OP, you do not need a 2 Year Contract.

YOU are so wrong. Take a 2G iPhone, get a new sim card. Activate the 2G in iTunes and it will activate it on a new two year contract. I tried activating my 2G this way in iTunes and it was going to set it up as a new two year contract. We're talking iTunes here. try it. You shouldn't reply unless you've tried to activate the iPhone yourseld via iTunes. There is no other choice offered but a two year contract this way.

No wonder people don't know what to believe on this site and people get so upset.

Try AT&T store. You don't need it that way. Which is the first way I told OP to try. AT&T Store.
And now I believe you owe me an apology because you kind of missed the part where I was talking about iTunes and not the AT&T store. You were never good at reading comprehension were you? 🙂
