From there I do the simple shift click/restore and point it to the new update.
I don't touch a thing....UNTIL its COMPLETELY Done.
When it asks I do a restore from backup (except for beta 1) and everything restores perfectly.
I then add each tab one at a time and sync. Unplug the iPhone, plug back in so that it does a backup and then add the next tab.

Backups for me take less then 45 seconds.

Hope that helps

Thanks SFC Archer - Which backup do you restore from .... would it not be just as easy to setup as new iPhone tho?

i synced my beta 3 for the first time today, and it was way slow. i stopped the sync, and itunes crashed. good times.

I have this on Beta 2 and Windows 7 - upgrade to latest iTunes didnt help.

I have this in Beta 1/2/3 and on Vista and Windows 7. Sync times are always a min of 20-30 mins. I always do a full restore from DFU when upgrading and never restore from backup when moving from beta to beta.

Syncs contacts and applications fine, but as soon as I put music and video into the mix the problems start. If people are having no problems in XP (apart from one guy) maybe us vista/7 folk should try running iTunes in compatibility mode fo XP? I will try tonight and post results.

No difference. If anything it was slower!!

Thanks mavis:)

I am not on my first sync anymore.

When it syncs the left hand library status bar (iTunes) shows that syncing has stopped, but the barbers pole in the main iPhone sync window (in iTunes 8.1) shows it is still syncing and the iPhone says it is still syncing too?

Wonder if this is a vista bug - I've reported it to apple, but wondered if anyone else is finding this as there's not much forum traffic about it ......

Anyone know if it's a corrupt library or something else local to me?

I'm getting the exact same problem but on Windows XP SP3

Hi I've tried the suggestion from SFC Archer post 24 in this thread, as well as post 18 in this thread
NO luck with either. I'm not willing to waste any more time on it and I'll now wait till the next beta to see if it's sorted then. It's only 30 mins during the betas fer goodness sake! Apple said they were aware and "engineers" were on the case when I reported it through bug report btw.

Good news!

Apple fixed the problem!
iTunes 8.2 and beta4 OS is syncing in realtime again! :-D
I'm very very happy!

(after beta4 update: iPod didn't start, but after the first sync, iTunes program copied a hundred mp3, and after that iPod was working again! I think the long sync caused by those mp3 files... but that doesn't matter anymore :)

OS 3 beta 4 fixes the extremely slow sync problem on Windows

The new update to iTunes 8.2 and OS 3 beta 4 has fixed the 30 minute slow sync problem on Windows. This was a Windows issue with OS 3 beta 1,2 & 3.
