The IPCC files included in any build of the OS are out of date at release.

On day 1 of the iPhone 3G, Optus had a carrier file update.

The GM is the final build..... It always has been in the past with OS X and iPhone OS, so why would they do something new????

GM means it really is the GM....

If the 3.0 released in 3 days is a higher build than the 3.0 GM, will iTunes know that I do not have the most recent version installed?
Because when 2.0 first came out there were different builds.

GM = Golden Master = final release. Unless Apple finds some showstopper bug, it'll be the same thing released on the 17th.

And it doesn't expire, but this is why people who aren't developers shouldn't be messing with pre-release software unless they know what they're doing.

Count on a carrier file update on Wednesday, or even before. I'm willing to bet though that the GM build is the final build, and 3.01 will follow shortly with any bug fixes.

The GM 3.0 is the exact... THE EXACT file that is to be released Wednesday. It will not expire. It is not BETA in any way. It is the actual file everyone will be downloading and using Wednesday.

i'm gonna admit right now that i'm not a dev and have no idea about software releases, but can i happen to know why the 3.0 GM won't possibly go through any fixes before the "official" release on Wednesday?

Gold Master (GM) software from Apple is always the final copy. There are no changes between it and retail or final release. Hence the name... GOLD MASTER!

Because for the last few weeks the factories will have been producing the iphone 3gs and they will have had to load the final release on it sometime ago. They can't just go back and open all those boxes and update them at the last minute.

It will probably not be for several weeks after the 3.0 release before 3.0.1 is released unless there's something major. That way they can wait and hoover up all the minor faults in one go.

A bit off topic, I just got my Notifications magically switched on: :D

its not magic you just have an app that has push, as soon as 3.0 apps start showing up in the app store then everyones phones will start showing push settings. Nice find though, thats the first time im seeing how they did it in settings.
