behind you!
Just wanted to make thread where we can discuss rumors, possibilities and wants we all have for iPhone 3.0. Actually I currently have a Bold and the phones i would consider giving this up for would be iPhone 3.0 ( if it meets certain criteria) or the Nokia n97. I really want the iphone to be all it can because i have a Mac and i want to stick with Apple products.

So i what i am looking for is (Hardware):
Better speakers (notice its plural)
at least a 3.2 mp cam (flash would be better not a deal breaker)
32gb version
Bluetooth A2DP
Higher res screen

(Software):
Video capture natively
copy and paste
MMS
landscape keyboard in all programs

what are you guys looking for?
Always looking to add to the list.

I agree with all of your options except the higher res screen, I don't think it's that neccessary, but it would be a bonus. I would like higher quality plastic that won't crack!

you bring up a lot of features that the phone needs.

For hardware I think the iPhone should have an SD slot(highly unlikely).
For software I would love to see voice directions in gps. Also it would be nice when in directions mode that the screen would follow your blue dot. It does this in search mode!

Folders to organize apps, and ability to hide others (like Stock app)

You know how the calendar app shows todays date, I always thought it would be cool if the Clock app showed the real time, and Weather app showed the real temp. But those would be battery killers

improvements

Well I had the original iPhone for a year and recently got a HTC Diamond . This win mobile has its plus and minus's for sure but over all I am impressed with it. The iPhone does what it does the best out of anything out there. Nothing comes close to the ease of use for the three main things that it does which is phone, music and internet. That said it lacks some basic features that I definitely use. So I will definitely get another iPhone but im waiting on a proper 2nd gen product as the 3G wasnt very much of an upgrade for me. What I need is the following:

Video
indicators for missed calls and or text/VM
ability to send / rec images
copy/paste
better manipulation on text messages
facelift
the ability to lock/hide certain data (i.e. pictures)

I think a "pro" model could accomplish all of this.

X-

Good points. folder to organize apps.

Oh and the ability to use the iPhone as a Hard disk so you save files on it.
(i know there are 3rd party apps for this)

Well the Weather app has to access Yahoo Weather, so I can see why the battery might drain there. But Clock would just need to access the...well, clock. You know...that time that's always on the top of your phone? ;-)

In addition to what's already been said (those are some terrific ideas guys) I'd also very much like the software option the G1 has - where you can pull down the status bar. It would be great if you're, say, in Safari, and get an IM/text, you pull down the status bar half way, reply, and are on your way.

Now, you have to exit out, load the app, reply, exit out, then reload the current one.

Maps fixed for UK users
Note syncing
ToDo syncing
MMS
Less dropped calls when on GPRS
Slightly better camera
more configurable options (ie sounds, sms reminder)
better built in ringtones
option to to turn off sms conversation view and just get them in a list

working phone

It would be nice if it was half as good a phone as any of the Nokia's I've used over fifteen years. The signal strength sucks and I can barely use it at home. Love it too much to care most of the time... I just have to switch back to the Nokia when expecting an important call......come to think of it....it would be nice not to need a needle permanently sellotaped to my Nokia too...... Oh, and tethering.....

indicating a new text or voicemail or as a scheduled reminder

As mentioned on the BB it has the indicator for phone calls & text. How long does the iphone keep reminding you it has a text (electronic sound) if you are not around when it first goes off?

I've never, EVER had a call issue.

I also tether with my computer, it's pretty cool.

an SD slot would be pointless
if apple found another way to put in another slot for a flash memory chip, they'd fill that slot. As soon as they can fit another slot, you'll see a 32 gig iPhone (or, if the 32gig module is reasonably priced by that time, a 64 gig iPhone)
plus, making this memory accessible from the outside would increase the thickness (we all know Apple is always trying to cut down on that) and make it less astethically pleasing (another biggie that Apple would not go for)

Any slot like an SD slot or MicroSD is extremely dumb, and will never happen. It's just not Apple.

And plus, why? 16GB is plenty for a phone. And soon we will have 32GB.

it will play your text message sound and/or vibrate (depending on your settings) once when you recieve the message, and then twice more after that (5 and 10 min marks? im not sure how theyre spaced out)

I jailbreaked my iPhone and installed statusnotifier. Works great and you can customize it.

90% of the software related in this thread can be fixed by jailbreaking. Video camera, MMS, Landscape SMS, etc.

You shouldn't have to jailbreak a phone to get basic features. That's why I'm waiting
