it will play your text message sound and/or vibrate (depending on your settings) once when you recieve the message, and then twice more after that (5 and 10 min marks? im not sure how theyre spaced out)

dccorona,

Thank You!!

I would like the following:

Hardware:
Metal Frame
Replaceable Battery
Improved Camera (with some form of image stabilizer or faster shutter speed)

Software:
MMS
Larger Selection of Text Message Alert Sounds

video recording, but more importantly, video editing, and then video uploading.

Apple could make video big via iPhone if they wanted too.

i[hone will get all these features its just gonna take sometime. iphone hasnt been out as long as others.

Ideally (and realistically I think) I'd want:

Hardware:
-Louder speakers
-Longer speakers
-Microphone placed on the right side of the left speaker
-The white rounded corner square on the home button to be replaced with a white (fits color scheme) light that glows if you have a missed call, email, or text...I'm fine if only one of them can be set at a time (in settings).
-Better camera (so it can take 30+ fps)
-Bluetooth profiles (specifically stereo and the ability to use bluetooth keyboards...even if it's restricted to the Apple one)
-Front facing camera (never use this, but you never know :p)
-Support for 802.11n
-HSDPA/WiMax
-Stronger GPS

Software:
-Copy/paste (so people can stop whining)
-Safari to be snappier
-Flash (like I envision: flash content is simply a screenshot on the page with a flash logo overlay like youtube has the play button overlay. tap it then a view comes up [flash player] and the thing starts playing)
-Java (same as above)
-For them to add comments to the YouTube application
-Push and streaming (for radio applications)
-More detailed lock screen info
-iChat (course that'd probably kill BeeJive/MobileChat/IM+ sales...)

Search feature for calendar and contacts.
Copy & Paste
Camcorder
Different Folders to store documents

I don't think that all the above would be too difficult to accomplish especially when you consider that I had almost all the above ( except for the camcorder ) on my 5 year old HP PPC.

What I'd like to see (In no particular order):

1: Full Bluetooth file transfer(Contacts, non iTunes music, videos as well as any images).

2: Basic video capture with a 'Camera Roll' for saved video.

3: The ability to save any streaming videos that have been fully cached, into the above camera roll.

4: A 'bucket' or storage area in iTunes as well on the device, to store and save any attachments from emails and for any files downloaded via the web, regardless of whether they can be viewed/used on the device or not.

5: Flash video support in Safari (like YouTube).

6: Landscape keyboard option in all native apps.

7: SMS option to use the phone's keypad for T9 texting.

8: Volume buttons to act the camera shutter, and more basic camera options.

Knowing how Apple likes to move in baby steps, we'd be lucky to see more than one of these added at a time, lol.

I want to control the phone from the computer.

Right now my iPhone is at the other end of the room and I just received an SMS, it would be cool if I can read the SMS from my mac and reply to it, and if the phone rings, my Mac would tell me who's calling and I can answer from my computer.

I remember this was possible with a Nokia Phone under Panther over Bluetooth. Not the making phone calls over the computer. But the SMS and knowing who's calling you without looking at the phone. :D

Also, wouldn't it be cool if Apple TV was integrated with iPhone so it would pause a movie during a call and display the caller in the middle of the TV screen?

Copy & Paste
Less dropped calls
Flash for Camera
Front facing Camera
Video Camera
Summary Standby Screen advising missed calls texts appointments etc seen some good mock ups on here
Proper button for taking photos
3 mm status bar at the top that is always lit up showing you how many bars you have e-mails appointments and missed calls. This would be better than a flashing light like the blackberry.
Single inbox for email if you want it
Note Synch
To-Do Synch
64 gig or 128 gig
Better Battery life
Over the air wifi synching with itunes
Auto update of icons eg weather clock and stocks
Shake to Shuffle ipod
Landscape apps
Flash for Safari
e-Wallet - get rid of credit cards
e-key - get rid of front door and car keys
Oystercard - get rid of train tickets
proper sat nav including turn by turn and orientation for when you are walking
MMS
Voice dial without separate app
Cover Flow in contacts
Solar Battery panel built in to supplement battery life
Wi-tricity - Charge your phone with invisible magnatised electricity by leaving it near a power source.
Some sort of pass it on service so that everyone allows part of their home wifi for public use secure from there own files but allowing fast internet access.
Tethering for MacBooks.
Password Application that works with a secure sites so you don't have to log on and key in your details.
Push over the air podcast synching for podcasts you subscribe to.
All in one multi appliance remote - Philips have a great all in one remote for about £80. They should create an app for the iphone so I can control my plasma, amp, Skybox Apple TV and home automation from my iphone.

that really shouldn't matter.
its like comparing the zune to a first gen iPod since they are both first gen products.

as for MrCatMan WOW thats a long list.
do you have an iPhone?

...Also it would be nice when in directions mode that the screen would follow your blue dot. It does this in search mode!

It does follow the blue dot in directions mode if you hit the blue "target" button on the bottom left of the screen. Each time you hit the arrow for the next direction, you will have to hit the blue target again for it to go back to your current location.

*Big ol' list*

Hoo... let's see here... in order:

Sure, sure, not happening, can't say, already done, already done, will never happen, not happening, that'd be nice, sure, sure, obviously (but not for a while), sure, sure (why clock? just look at the menu bar), sure, sure, sure, DANGEROUS, would be nice, sure?, sure, keep dreaming..., sure, hmm... cool, HA HA, HA HA, sure?, already done, that'd be nice, that'd be nice, and that'd be nice.

A lot of this will never be done with system software and only with App Store applications.

Hardware:

1. A better camera- This has always seemed like a logical yet neglected hardware feature, even with early model iPods that didn't possess a camera. With the large amount of memory a decent camera would make an iPhone or even an iPod a digital camera killer. Most consumers would be quite satisfied with a decent camera while more discerning users can still opt for dedicated models.

2. Exchangeable batteries or longer lasting battery- An obvious flaw with both the first gen and second gen iPhones has been the mediocre battery time. I understand Apple's rationale but I nevertheless want an easy way to extend the battery life by just swapping in a spare.

3. Forward facing camera for video chat- Perhaps not likely to happen any time soon, but a true video chat capable mobile device is one of the most yearned for mobile applications in the last half century that has yet to be achieved practically. I believe we're at the threshold of seeing this happen and Apple is well positioned to be the company to make it work. I'm not convinced entirely by the true utility of this capability, but even if it doesn't add much utility people may (or may not) adapt to it.

Software:

1. iChat mobile- Taking advantage of the above mentioned forward facing camera.

2. Integrated iDisk/MobileMe file sharing utility. This is presently available through third parties. It's surprising Apple doesn't include this ability out of the box.

3. Better iLife integration- Hopefully to take advantage of superior camera specs.

4. More intelligent software- This is a feature that was very promising in the object oriented days of the 90's and showcased in the Newton as well as in the Palm through an add in. Basically, these devices were able to recognize if the user wrote down a name and link it to an address book entry. Some of this is being renewed (for instance, in recent versions of Mail.app on OS X the software recognizes addresses and dates). This utility would be very helpful on a mobile device and make it more useful. For instance, I'd like to be able to write down a name on a scratch pad and be able to pick that name up with my finger and drag it to the address book or to my calendar to make an appointment or to my phone application where the device would look up the name online for me and make a call.

This is the most retarded idea I have EVER seen. Sorry Catman

Hmm, I wonder where he got that idea from? Hmm oh yeah, the iPod nano 4th gen :| I don't see how it could be "The most retarded idea ever" If someone asked for 5TB of flash memory, then it's acceptable, but shake the shuffle is a feature on the iPod nano, so why can't it be in the iPod touch/iPhone? So what is really wrong with the idea of shaking to shuffle?

I think some of my other requests were more retarded tbf

RSS feed for podcast downloads

I want
-MMS
-video camera
-copy/paste
-RSS feed for podcast downloads

Can someone explain what the problem is with podcast downloads. I read all over the place that you need to sync with iTunes, but thats not true. I can stream audio podcasts from websites using the download links but if I subscribe to them the links dont appear (at least not in Google Reader).

Is it just the way the publisher is exposing their feed?

Cheers, Stuart

I am very surprised no one has mentioned this yet. Louder E-Mail sound. The current email sound may sound good in Apple mail, but in iphone's mail application, it is too soft !
