when you get the new phone, you will have to update to 3.0 again. i just went through the same thing.

I didn't have to.... waited a few days to upgrade after a replacement. So I think it will depend on how he sets it up. When I activated replacement phone I did set it up as new phone.

Cool Beans.

1. My Story, for what it's worth: I had the silent switch break off my phone and wanted to take it to the "Genuis" Bar for a replacement. I knew I was under warranty but unsure about having OS 3.0b3 on it and having jailbroken it previously. All I did was "erase all content and settings" and restore to 3.0b3 again. When a "genuis" got my phone he asked if I was a developer. I just said yes and he warned my that if I were to have any system/software issues while on 3.0betas that he would have to refuse any service. Well, I didn't have to get in to me, like yourself, not having my own dev. account but being a "beta tester". And so I got a replacement or "refurbed" phone.

2. Anyone know if it's possible to definitively tell whether an exchanged phone is a refurb??? I've read, as the :apple: genuises say, that there's no way of knowing for sure. But they all come out in those small white boxes.

ALL Fixed!!

Hey guys! It turns out that the connection in the new screen had been faulty, AND the genius in the Apple store had been using counterfeit, non-apple certified parts to do repairs for people. I went in to the store, and I explained the issue, didn't even have to call for a manager.. The 4 guys that were baffled about its problem took it apart in front of me, and the problem was revealed. They then swapped out my phone for a new one, and activated it for me. They fired "Francisco" and everything turned out okay. They told me, that I shouldn't upgrade to 3.0 again, just wait for the release, although, I'm not sure yet. They also said that, "Using the 3.0 firmware, while the system is in beta, voids all software related issued warranties, but doesn't affect the hardware." Basically, don't go into the Apple Store saying you wanna downgrade, but if your hdd fails, or your screen cracks, they'll help you. Thanks everyone for your help! You guys saved me...

What do you think? I mean, there is nothing super super spectacular that 3.0 has offered me... I think I can just skate by on 2.2.1 for now.. What do you suggest? What if the manager asks me if I'm a developer?

then why did you install 3.0, have problem? did you even know what'll be happening if phone will go wrong? just curious? so curiosity just killed your phone. good for you. don't do anything if you don't have any idea. at least don't do that with your phone. I found that 3.0 is pretty much testing mode. it's not good for every day use. major problem is that many apps are not compatible with 3.0. in addition, youtube isn't working. I do test with my ipod touch. also I have iphone 3G. but I don't install it into my phone. you just took your own risk.

Today my MMS suddenly stopped working. Also, I noticed that even though the performance in Setting screens improved with Beta 3, several apps seems to be freezing or completely unusable.

Some apps that stopped working (they worked in Beta 2) for me:
1. Google Mobile Apps
2. Free RSS + few more I don't care about

Apps that crash or act weird
1. NBA Game Time
2. Sometimes Call button disappears from my dialer. I have to restart the phone to get it back.
3. SmugShot
4. TVU Player worked on 3G in beta 2 but in beta 3 it works only on WiFi.
