the restore button would come up only if i have activated the phone first and am now trying to jail break it right?

This is a NEW phone just out of the box - never been activated.

so when i connected it to itunes the options i got were

register and continue

no if you put the phone into dfu mode correctly the only option that should come up is restore.

so im trying to setup my gmail acc with the instant mail tab

cannot connect using SSL

i clicked yes

then it says cannot connect to imap.gmail.com

check network connection and that you entered the correct info in the incoming mail server field

where is this incoming mail server field?

i am connected to the net and am surfing the web with safari so thats not the issue
