A lot of Apple stores get a new large batch of iPhones in every day. They just sell out within a few hours of the store opening every morning.

I bought an iPhone today at the Cherry Creek store in Denver, Colorado. I got there at 8am, right when the store opened. There were already 100 people in line ahead of me. At 9:30am, I walked out with my new activated iPhone, and there were another 100 people in line as I left.

So iPhones aren't *really* sold out out, in the sense that you can get one if you're willing to stand in line for 1.5 hours.

New shipments come in all the time, they're just selling at an unbelievable rate, so you should get in line before the store opens.

Hey guys... looks like the tool is temporarily displaying misleading information. Apple may be updating the tool, which is causing everything to show as if it's sold out.

Now that Apple will be open at 8 AM, my question is the mall that my local Apple Store is in opens at 10 AM. Most malls open around that time. Would it be safe to assume the mall will allow people in at 8 AM? Even though every Apple store seems to be out of stock based on their inventory web site, I'm going to go tomorrow morning at 8 AM anyway. I'd hate to have to wait 2 hours and then find out there are no iPhones!

THE IPHONES ARE NOT SOLD OUT

In fact most Apple stores in the US show availability for at least one model of the phone for tomorrow (quite a few are showing full availability)

The tool is working properly now, and this no longer needs to be discussed.

Despite what this thread claims, I've found the availability tool to be accurate. Just make sure you check the tool for your store *after* 9pm to see if they'll have phones when the store opens the next day.

I checked the tool several days this week for my store in Denver, and each time it said they would have a new batch of phones in the next day. Calling the store confirmed the tool was accurate, and this morning I waited in line and got one.

Also, Apple employees go through the line and make a list of what phone each person wants (color and capacity). They give each person a "reservation" card that will hold their phone until 6pm. If they don't have enough in stock, they tell people at the end of the line so that they won't wait too long for no reason.

I'm going to the Roosevelt Field Apple Store on Long Island. The mall opens at 10, but the Apple store is opening at 8? I hope I'm not camping out for 2 hours...

I'm sure if I get there early enough I'll end up getting one. I was stopping by the mall around 3:30PM and there was a line still at that point...

Apple site now reflects what's in stock tomorrow. I better get one, well, two, my wife needs one also!

I guess that's why it's called macrumors instead of macfacts.

What's the deal, is Apple using MobileMe to sync their information?

Well I got my answer. Here I am, worrying that the mall won't be open at 8 AM when the Apple Store in Roosevelt Field, Long Island, opens. I got there a few minutes before 8. The was huge! I guess the memo got to everyone about opening early. I was on the line for close to an hour, moved up half way to the door. There was an Apple employee outside making sure everybody had what they needed to have to expedite the process. When this Apple employee spoke to me, he told me that there were only 20 or so 16 GB Black iPhones, 30 or so 16 GB White iPhones and a few 8 GB iPhones. They ran out of the black 16 GB iPhone so I left...

Why open at 8 AM and add more employees when you don't even have much of a stock of phones in the first place? I think this way, they get rid of the iPhone crowd so when the store opens at 10 AM for everything else, it's not a mad house in there... Good idea on Apple's part, it just made me think I'd actually get an iPhone this morning...

I said in another thread that they were completely sold out around here and today verified it

Every AT&T store around me is sold out
The only Apple Store near me sold out COMPLETELY in 1 hour today

Thankfully I called them before thinking about driving to it and they laughed at me

I got my iPhone from there, waited 4 hours lol. They do open at 8 now though to handle the iPhone sales.

I am moving there in 2 weeks and thought I would get one at that exact store

Crowded?

oh yeah. i've been here since Wed. for business, and have walked by the Apple Store everyday. Each day there's been a line that's been at least a good city block in length. I think it took about 2 hours from when i got in line until i left.

chicago is so awesome, i really don't want to leave. are you going to be living down here in the Loop?

Just got my phone this morning from the grand opening of the Charleston, SC Apple store. I called AT&T while in line and canceled the one I had on order. Took four calls to get them to cancel it. The store must have had at least a hundred of them.

I was going to try again tomorrow (Sunday) but I think I'll go Monday morning. As a teacher, I'm off for the summer. I'm hoping everyone else will go to work so when I get there at 7:30 I can actually pick up two iPhones.

What time does Apple stores open on sundays? since they open at 8am monday through saturday.

1. You know its gonna be hard to find so why does it matter?
2. Your also wrong because i was just at the mall yesterday and people usually dont wait next to a guy with a clipboard outside the store for no reason...
(They were in line for iphones if you didnt get that already)

I don't know how effective that will be honestly. Since it opens at 8:00, people will be lining up from probably about 5:30/6. You would be surprised lol, I thought everyone would be at work too, but I was wrong.

You probably will get the phone though, just will be waiting a few hours. I went to the Roosevelt Field store on tuesday at 5:00 p.m and there was a line of about 20 people.

They do get shipments throughout the day, so if they sell out of one type early in the day, I guess those people just stay in line until a shipment comes?
