Did you manually download the new firmware or did iTunes get it for you?
Trying to figure out if manual download is needed prior to doing the restore.
If this were an intentional SOFTWARE adjustment, wouldnt the OLD iphones gain a yellow tint upon upgrade? Especially if as some posters say they use the same screen (I dont think so...).
Methinks this is just marketing BS inresponse to an unforseen problem. I hate it when companies aren't just straightforward with you.![]()
NOPE, WRONG.
The 3G and 2.5G iPhones have DIFFERENT firmware, read my post above.
You are CORRECT, but if Apple wanted to make it a warmer screen, but they decided all the old iphones could just get along fine with the colder screen, just cuz? Doesnt pass the whiff test there
Apple let's us adjust brightness, they should also have an option for adjusting white balance.
Welcome back Xploit. They won't change them. Its intentional to use cheap screens in the iphone now. Cheap means bad quality. B Grade, inconsistent inferior screens,
in such high volumes that the overall saving for them, adds up to a very nice profit indeed!

HOW TO GET RID OF THE YELLOW SCREEN TINT ON THE IPHONE 3G
I'm sooooo pleased I've managed to get rid of the yellow tint!!!
As soon as i got my iPhone 3G i was gutted with the yellow tint but tried to convince myself that it wasn't that bad or that id get used to it or it was 'meant' to be that way etc...
They way i did it was simple.
Drained the battery right down to nothing then gave it a full nights charge - when i got up this morning i'd forgotten what id done and as soon as i picked up my iphone the difference was astounding! no yellow tint at all.
To drain the battery i used the phone normally all day then left it playing a video through iplayer until it stopped due to 'low battery' then i played a video on the ipod feature until the phone turned itself off - then i left it for about another hour turning the phone 'on' to see the flashing red battery indicator about every 5 / 10 mins just to make sure every last drop of power was out of it.
Then i plugged it into the mains charger - at first it wouldnt come back on i just got the red battery on screen and then eventually it reboots. I didnt look at this point if the colour had corrected itself but i left it to charge for about 9 hours and when i checked it in the morning it looked great.
This has also seemed to solve the 'lag' problem when writing text messages.
Anyone got any idea why this has worked???
I haven't 'updated' or changed my firmware or software.
S
I can confirm this worked for me, no idea how... before I did this there was this sort of slight yellow tint over everything... was driving me crazy. Now at least the whites are white (the colors are still warmer than the first gen iphone which is cool) ... my guess is that the new firmware in part was meant to fix this ( mine already came with the new one but was still a bit yellow) but some didn't 'take' ? this might just finish the process or something... who knows?!!
Sounds a bit wierd that draining the battery would make it all stop looking yellow, but glad that it worked for you.

I see nothing cheap about the newest screens. Do you have some quotable intel or a link?

Cheap? A Capacitive Touch screen made of high grade electro-responsive glass? This is perhaps the highest quality screen of any handheld device available on the market today, and likely to be so for the next several years. The Resistive Touch screens found in other smart phones and devices do not even compare in terms of quality, response, and fluidity. The Capacitive Touch screen used in the 3G iPhone happens to be the same one which was used in the first generation iPhone, with the exception that it is now secured by mini-bolts instead of glue - nothing 'cheap' about it, or them.
