Ok, i know it haven't pass even a day but so far how do you feel the battery life in the new iPhone 3G? that is my big concern
:apple:

Sadly, it blows! I figure two days at best with moderate to light usage. I charged it up full and turned it on 15 July @ 06:00 hours, it is now 16 July @ 12:22 hours and I have 20% battery warning already on. I turned off 3G last night at 22:00 hours.

Pathetic is not strong enough to describe the battery life.

Still, it is an awesome phone, but calling it a mobile phone might be stretching it a bit.

I can see I'll need charging cable at work, home and in the car.

I picked up an iPhone 3G on launch day from Rogers Wireless and I absolutely love it, so much functionality packed into a great device, I get great battery life out of it, and with MobileMe I have everything at my fingertips wherever I am.

What do you consider great battery life?

I haven't had to charge it two days, and I have been using Safari, making phone calls, sending emails and text messages, and I have also been listening to music and taking pictures with the camera.

You think that blows?! You have 20% remaining after an entire day of usage, standby all night, and then half a day! That's great. What were you expecting from a 3G phone with a screen that takes up the entire front of the device?

I just don't get how people think Apple can magically make the iPhone last for 4 days with the technology that's in the iPhone. Ridiculous.

From what I know, Smartphones always have a much shorter battery life then the "basic" mobile phones...simply because they have more power consuming features.
Basically with a smartphone you should expect to charge it about once a day.

You just know some are comparing their 3g iPhones to their old 2g Razr's and that ilk. I truely dislike most people.

I agree. If I look at the iPhone like it is my computer replacement, I find that it does much better on battery life than my MBP!

First impressions.. very good. The back doesn't look cheap as I'd feared, although it is a fingerprint magnet.

3G speed is great - 7.05Mbps measured from a UK speed test (broadbandchoices.co.uk)... that's close to the maximum I'd expect to get (or even the maximum possible). As a result I've disabled wifi to save battery.

Rendering speed is fast.. really nice.

BBC iPlayer is blocked over 3G, as expected... youtube works though.

What is the battery life like with wi-fi switched on and just using 3g? Which is the bigger drain on the battery

My first day with my first iPhone. The 3G is turned off because my area doesn't have it. If I play the ipod and browse the web simultaneously, it will lose juice noticeably fast. I don't do that often. Mostly I just check email and set calendar items throughout the day. That doesn't hurt battery life much at all.

Call Quality is Way high in my opinion. My prior phone was a Sony Ericsson T637. Once upon a time I liked that phone. But it really stinks when there's background noise -- lots of stutter. But the new iPhone sounded great. I drove around town and came home, etc...and my wife couldn't tell I was in the car or anything. More importantly, when she talked, I could hear her clearly without stutter even if I was talking at the same time. She said the phone sounded really good, and I notice a huge difference over the T637.

Some people complain about the contacts being a little slow....I think people love to complain sometimes. This really is no big deal at all. OMG I HAVE TO PAUSE A MOMENT!! I don't get it.

I haven't downloaded any apps for it yet -- and I'm suspicious of the quality of "Free" apps. So many people complain about apps crashing, and I really wonder about their wisdom in loading on a bunch of free apps with an unknown (unlikely) quality control process. Maybe I'm just dreaming that the $10 app has better testing before release, but having worked on a software development team, I think it's gotta be a safer bet.

I do wish it had greater battery life -- but I wished that of every battery device I have. From my former (dead) ipod to my electric razor, I wish they all had infinite battery life. But in the meantime I'll deal with it.

LOVE my 3g

I got my phone about 3 days ago now. and i LOVE it. no more carring around an ipod and a phone!!! makes everything alot easier. as for everyone complaining about the battery life. well at first i thought the same thing... "why doesnt it last longer" but then when i really think about it. im charging it just as much as i would my lg shine. once a day. plug it in when i go to bed. there is no difference. with any phone u would want to make sure u have full power for the next day so im sure most ppl would charge their phones when they go to bed. So STOP complaining!! other then that it took me a lil bit to get use to the text msging on it. but now i got the hang of it and love it so much more then a regular phone!
LOVE IT

Yea most people are morons and think batteries in high drain devices should last forever.

....and growing exponentially by the hour. We are a nation of whiners. As Apple Evangelists however, IMO were set ourself up for these thoughtless complaints. We see Steve as a deity and expect miracles.

Well guess what? Yes, thats correct. Now move on. Considering that you have a mobile computer in your pocket running OSX, take a reality check.

Battery can be managed...

Some people will say turn 3G off and that will save the battery. True, but we have a 3G phone; so take the good with the bad. If it's available you use it.

Okay, but the good things to do, when not using wifi turn it off, you can turn push off and fetch manually or on a slow schedule. The other big energy user: location services. When you aren't using it, just shut it off. Turn the brightness down a bit when indoor to half and you are in good shape.

It's not bad then at all.

I just love it!

There are so many post on shortcomings of the iPhone, in summary I can just say that I love this piece of hardware/software after almost one week of usage. Even my 4-year son can start and use applications (mostly games) with no prior knowledge of computer environment!

This may have already been mentioned - I haven't read all 12 pages - but I just managed to pick up a white 16 GB this afternoon and had a few things that I noticed immediately. Keep in mind I've been using the original iPhone since late September last year...

The new iPhone is wider than the old one, and the difference is made up by having more black bezel around the screen. If you've never owned the previous iPhone, this probably would make no difference to you whatsoever. But it's REALLY noticeable to me. I'm sure I'll forget about it with time. The extra width makes it less comfortable in my hand, too. It's not a huge difference, but it's noticeable.

Also, the white is great for not picking fingerprints and smudges, but it really looks incongruous to me. White, chrome, and black... hmm. But I can live with it!

3G is proving pretty slow around here at the moment. Just did a speed test and got 284 kbps. Hopefully that'll improve!

Battery / Performance

What do you consider great battery life?

I posted before really disappointed - my brand new 3G 16g froze and died. Apple being Apple were great & replaced it instantly - (FANTASTIC customer service in Trafford Centre from Chris!)
A week living with the replacement now - Bottom line, if you turn off the 3G, WiFi and Location services, and don't surf too much the battery life is great. Apps store and iPhone 2.0 are great - I LOVED my old EDGE iPhone and my new version 2.0 one is even better - HOWEVER, if I actually leave on all the new hardwear stuff, it's unusable; a few hours at best, no way a business phone - Blackberry is pushing and beeping away HOURS after it dies. So my conclusion - yes iPhone is Great, Vs 2.0 is even better, the hardwear upgrades are super if you are near a socket, but it's not really very mobile if you want to work out the office for the day.

I've been using my 3G quite a bit today... so far:

* a 20 minute phone call
* watched a 30 minute TV show
* downloaded a few apps from the App Store
* spent a total of about 30 minutes browsing the web on wifi
* spent ~10 minutes reading emails
* took a few photos and emailed them
* spent 15 minutes reading Twitter

WiFi and 3G are on, pushing calendar and contacts from MobileMe, and polling Gmail every 15 minutes...

I still have 60-70% of my battery left. Which is about the same as what I would have on my iPhone EDGE. So I don't really notice any dramatic decrease in "productivity" related to battery life. I charge it every night anyway, so it's not a big deal if it's low by late evening. Although I wish they had included a dock with the damn phone like they did last time... or not change the design!

Question?

Under contacts(at the top) on the original iPhone, you number is displayed.

On my 3G phone, my number is not there anymore..

It is also not displayed on iTunes anymore under the serial number..

Is the same for everyone else?

I can see my number under the serial no. in iTunes

The first time I sync'ed with iTunes, it asked to confirm the number associated with my iTunes account. I put my new mobile number. Did u not get that prompt? If u didn't get that prompt, maybe you can just edit your account settings to enter ur mobile number.

macrumors.com forum on iPhone

Anybody else notice that Safari keeps scrolling to the top of the page when trying to type an entry from the iPhone??? Anybody know how to prevent it?

It's an amazing device. I certainly LOVE my iPhone (is it wrong to love your phone?).

However, Safari constantly crashed which is really annoying. Especially when you are, for example, typing a long reply in something like the Macrumors forum!

Hopefully a more stable version of mobile safari will be released in the near future.

THANKS APPLE .... For creating the best phone ever!

Cheers
:)

White Iphone 3G

So I got my white iphone 3G this pas Friday, a week after launch day. Not only did I get the iphone, I also got a second degree sunburn on both my arms. I was lining up and I started getting blisters on my arm. It was a scary thing. But anyway, I'm apple/iphone crazy and continue to stand online. (Why would I give up if I am half way in line already?! For my arms?! Of course NOT!) I quickly went to the doctor after purchasing the phone and had to shell out another $15 co pay plus $35 for medication. My iphone sure is expensive!

For the iphone, I'm glad I got the white. I wanted the white because I know many people who wanted the black and I want to be slightly different. Also, my wallet, business card holder, and wristless are white, so it'll match perfectly. There has been a little lag on the iphone. Sometimes it seemed like the screen was stuck. This happened when I ran the Shazam application. After getting it to work once, it wouldn't work again so I deleted it. But it's a cool app.
