The same phone exhibits a couple small cracks, as shown here:

Just noticed that same crack on mine but I'm not going to return it, mainly because it might be from me. Do you think that crack is a defect or from dropping? It's not like those gray hairline cracks. Every other aspect of the phone is perfect and I don't want to risk getting another one with a light leak or some other defect (I've had bad luck with my other iPhones).

Edit: Just read your entire response about the crack, never mind then.

Hahahaha, I read this forum all the time, but this thread has caused me to make an account.

I made it just to say:

IT'S A LIGHT LEAK.

DOES IT RUIN THE PERFORMANCE OF YOUR PHONE?

C'mon people, don't you realize eventually your nitpicking is going to ruin it for the rest of us when we have a legitimate reason to exchange our phones?

It's gone past being "defective" and you people are just being anal whiners.

You give iPhone customers a bad name. Just like those people who try to exchange laptops "my power button is .05mm off-centered!" "I DEMAND you replace the WHOLE laptop"

I would just rather have the genius "repair" your light leaker instead of giving you a new phone. I'm sure most of you are abusing it so you are getting a new iphone every 2 weeks.

Disgusting.

I always wondered what this issue was. I'm not sure if I have it or not (have never noticed), but I don't think it would bother me, and I get hugely upset at dead/stuck pixels.

I don't see the point of getting too upset at something that doesn't impede function of the device. It's actually a little wasteful to get a replacement - more resources are spent to refurbish the device, or to strip it for parts.

Since you don't seem to see the issue, you likely don't have it.

The concern, at least the way I see it, is not that it impedes the functionality, but that it will likely impede functionality later on.

Its basically a hole that leads straight to the motherboard.

Dust getting in and onto the screen surface is a common result of this. Also, its another potential disaster should moisture get in. Of course there are other areas where crap can get in but those places at least have something that in most cases will prevent direct exposure to the motherboard.

And to top it all off, its darn annoying to look at.
