First, to the haters and non-believers... "How ya like me now?"

Now, on to business. Since, a lot of you can't seem to fathom the idea of having a Q&A forum about what I know from my experience with the iPhone 3G, without bickering about off topic situations. I'm going to lay it out for you as specific as I can.

First: No sign of front camera, and unfortunately, no current sign of MMS.

Screen: Looks GREAT! I think it looks BETTER than the original. Very crisp, clean imagery. Doesn't seem to have the negative black issue. The touch sensitivity also seems quite a bit more responsive.

Audio: I wouldn't define the iPhone 3G as - Louder. However, it is certainly A LOT more clear. For phone calls it sounds better on both the earpiece and the speaker phone. Music sounds a bit more full.

Feel: Overall, it feels solid. Yes, the back is a finger print magnet, but what item in your arsenal that is a glossy finish isn't? The plastic doesn't feel cheap. However, the top button, vibrate switch and volume control seems A LITTLE on the chincy side.

It does come out of the box with 2.0 and I was very impressed with the piece of jewelry aka sim removal tool... lol!

As expected the App Store was not functional. However, the GPS was, and though I only took it for a WALK halfway down the block, I still saw the difference on the screen. There is no voice prompts in Google Maps.

The contacts app exists and is on the second page. As lame as it sounds the calculator is AWESOME!

No landscape SMS.

And I think that just about covers the basics. If you feel I missed please feel free to ask and DO NOT start bickering.

do fingerprints wash clean off with a rag/tshirt?

any visible scratches thus far? does the plastic seem like it's very scratch prone?

Easily, quick wipe on the pants and your in business.

Doesn't seem any more scratch prone than any other phone.

When using the GPS, if you zoom in all the way, does the blue circle move more frequently?

Yes.

does safari seem snappier?

;)

but really...

any way to remove/disable the contacts icon?
is the bezel really any smaller? photos don't seem to offer much insight, but i honestly can't tell the difference.

edit: are the buttons really metal, or just painted plastic?

not that this really matters at all, but is the "sim ejector tool" made of a cheap plastic or is it metal?

Not that I saw, but at the same time, I didn't really look into it.

Bezel, yeah a little.

The buttons seem like maybe one of the hybrid mixtures of metal and plastic.

Metal.

So how did you get the phone so soon?

any difference in the speed of UI?

Friend works at AT&T and he let me take a demo for a test drive.

Speed of the UI... YES, I did notice this it didn't "lag" as much as the other, but there was still some noticeable "hiccups"

Thanks for the great information. I, for one, am a believer :)

I can't wait for Friday morning.

You are very welcome.

i just hope that there isn't a metallic coating/paint that will chip off of the buttons... especially since the sleep/wake button is so often used.

btw, you're awesome :)

No, the material seems to be dyed and not painted.

Thank you.

What about sound preferences ? Can I change the sounds for calendar events, emails, etc ? This is something that always drove me nuts.

I know this is the worst question to ask ... but have you tried loading a site with flash ? :p

I didn't have much time to get too in depth. I may be able to get deeper tomorrow.

I started playing with the ringtones ---- Same dumb tones.

If I get the chance I will try a flash site tomorrow.

Phil, thanks for all the info and the pictures and all - I hate the haters, you are the best

is the phone yours?

because im about to ask you a VERY unreasonable yet it is probably on everyone's mind. How scratch resistant is the back? Want to take a quarter to the back of it and test it out for us? :D

Instead of using a quarter, use a real world instance.

Set the iPhone down on a table and don't care. Not like set it down gentle of course, but so it like slides a bit. See what happens.

No flash yet. It seemed like a solid phone but we were not allowed to activate the one we had in the store until the 10th. I get to take one home on the 10th and get things started for the 11th. They are really hyping up this yellowpages.com application, which seems to be a highly interactive online yellowpage application. I think it feels better in the hand than the last one. The smooth plastic backing does attract a lot of finger prints but it does not slip out of the hand as easy. It also does not seem any lighter in my hand than my original iphone. Anyone not sure of eligibility should visit an AT&T store, and corporate users should also contact AT&T directly. Current iphone users need to pay $18 for the activation of the 3G iPhone, while new customers still pay $36.

Just out of curiosity do you think it feels better in the hand than the old iPhone?

Yes, it feels good in the hand.

You said no landscape SMS, but what about mail/notes/etc?

Nope.

So you're the guy I saw walking down the street with an iPhone 3G already!!

j/k

Yep, that's me! LoL!

Sorry, Not my phone.

It seems okay.

Any chance of taking the GPS out for a spin and checking some details?

- e.g does the gps work when no phone signal
- Does it track your position well
- What are the GPS settings - can you change if the GPS is on all the time/off/turning iteself on & off constantly
- Time to first fix how long does it take to get a lock on position?

Not sure if you're allowed to take the demo model out for a spin though...
