Hey , PhightinPhils26 How long did it take to activated your demo 3G iphone ? what about the rumors of a sim eject tool?

Here is an observation.

You cannot access iTunes over 3G, still only WiFi... I was hoping this would change so you can get any song you want. Beggers can't be choosers.

That's strange. I thought they said it would be available. Maybe that was the App Store. If the App Store is available over 3G you'd think so would the iTunes store. Maybe it will open up on 3G with App Store release.

In the original postings when I had it yesterday I posted some pics. Search for my user name you should find them.

Here's hoping!

Also, to answer someone's question from last night, you still cannot change the sound of email.

Would changing the sound of email be something that 3rd party apps could conquer?

The record labels wont allow it unless Apple gives them a bigger cut. This has been reported on before.

now that is incredibly LAME.

As lame as it is, it shouldn't be surprising. Since the App Store was announced that was known. It was kind of why people just assumed the Installer.app would still exist. For when you need system apps that Apple won't approve.

Hey Phightin, how is the GPS signal when you go in cars/buildings? Oh, can you send SMS messages to it yet? I wonder how fast the SMS interface is when you have a conversation with 1000+ messages in it.

Could this setting be over-ridden in any other aspect?

edit: I know it's a knit-picky question. :)

Unfortunately not.

As Archie- explained, 3rd party applications bought or downloaded from the app store will run in thier own secure environment called a 'sand-box'.

All the application's immediate resources are to remain in that sand-boxed environment.
The application(s) will however, be able to interact with the existing APIs within iPhone OS 2.0,
i.e. the phone.app, and the image picker.

They will not have access to the system root or the processes associated with it.

No flash yet. It seemed like a solid phone but we were not allowed to activate the one we had in the store until the 10th. I get to take one home on the 10th and get things started for the 11th. They are really hyping up this yellowpages.com application, which seems to be a highly interactive online yellowpage application. I think it feels better in the hand than the last one. The smooth plastic backing does attract a lot of finger prints but it does not slip out of the hand as easy. It also does not seem any lighter in my hand than my original iphone. Anyone not sure of eligibility should visit an AT&T store, and corporate users should also contact AT&T directly. Current iphone users need to pay $18 for the activation of the 3G iPhone, while new customers still pay $36.

I used the Yellow Pages app on the Curve and loved it. It was mad convenient. You were able to look up anything and get directions to it using the GPS.

Can you possibly tell me if a message in Meebo or another message application counts as a Text or on the data plan??

I know its a dumb question, but my ATT rep was ADAMANT that it is a text and seemed ridiculous to me. Maybe he was trying to sell me the text plan.

Did your friend get any white 16G iPhones in ? if so, how many ?

The store I am at confirmed they are getting white, but for security purposes didn't disclose how many.

How's the build quality and the feeling comparing to the previous?

I answered this already.

GPS in buildings not great, I can't test it in my car. They wont let me leave with it. (Understandable) I would image if I am getting shotty signal in doors it will work in the car quite nicely

Does the GPS only stay on with maps open? As in does it drain the battery with maps closed?

As I mentioned before you can turn the GPS off and on. I answered this also.

Can't answer this. If its a webapp then it wont cost as a text. I speculate that with the native AIM app they will be charged as text since that is how AT&T works it... however, again... I use the word speculate here.
