Broke down and ordered one from the local AT&T store ... I'll update when I get it to see if the 21 day estimate is hooey or not ;)
I ordered mine on Wednesday and it was delivered to the store on Friday ... and I picked it up today. I was also told the "it could be 21 days" story. I ordered a white 16GB ... I was told that they were easier to get than the black ones. (I like the fact that it does not show fingerprints!)

Best of luck ...

A long line in RI today

I snapped these on my iPhone while at Providence Place Mall today. Still lines a week after launch.

WOW I don't think I have seen a product that still has this much people queuing a week after launch.

I passed my local apple store today and there were similar scenes.

3 stores around New Orleans had phones today but I am not sure how long they lasted

I figure that will be the way it is at most major cities

Some AT&T stores will have some and others will be sold out

Victory!

My buddy called the local :apple: store here this morning, and they told him they had all three models in stock. So we headed down there, got in line about 1pm or so.

Long story short, we ended up waiting about 2.5 hours, but all of us walked out of there with what we wanted. The sales guy I was working with told me that the shipment they got in this morning was the biggest one since the initial launch. When we left around 3:30pm they were sold out of everything but the 16GB Whites.

They had four people selling working the iPhone sales. My transaction should've been simple (current AT&T customer; not porting; no business plan or discounts), but turned into a nightmare because there was a problem with the $100 store credit I had from last year's pricing debacle. It was showing up as "used" in their system and both myself and the associate went rounds with the gift card support line. Finally, the store manager stepped in and got it resolved, but not after my buddy and his fiance had already been done for a good 20 minutes, and they were both porting numbers over from Sprint. :(

Anyhow, mission accomplished.

And for those of you still waiting to get one, the associate told me that it pays to check in later in the days even if you see no line and assume they don't have any. He said that many folks who arrive late in the day assume they're all gone because there's no line, but in fact they may have 3-4 left of a given model.

Cheers,

Craig

An update ... iphones should be available for pickup today at 3pm. I had a feeling it would make it to 21 days ... no cigar for me.

I walked into the Carphone Warehouse in Canary Wharf this morning and bought a 16Gb iPhone 3G. I should get it in a few hours...

No queues, no fuss...

doesn't seem to be a problem getting them as of now. All the Apple Stores around here have them. There still is a line at the stores though. Hopefully there will be no lines soon.

I am curious how the shipments to AT&T stores are going as I am not anywhere near an Apple Store at the moment and even when I return home I am an 1.5 hours from one.

I know Apple Stores come first but what does that mean exactly for AT&T stores in terms of time when they will get shipments...days/weeks?

yeah....

AT&T stores are lucky to receive iPhones, and I hope they don't forget that. As soon as Apple is done raking in money on add-on purchases, I'm sure they will hurry more iPhones over the AT&T kiosks.

Another question...do you think a vastly higher percentage of people who bought from Apple stores are Mac users and/or a vastly higher number of people who bought from AT&T are PC users?
