I've been reading a lot of posts and around the net (not just here) that say that the iPhone 3G is not a significant upgrade. Everyone is saying how dissapointed they are that there is not much that is new. My belief is that people think the 3G is not a significant upgrade just because it looks the same. If you think about it, everyone went crazy for the 3G when it was released, but really the only major differences were 3G, A-GPS, the casing, and maybe even the headphone jack. Now, the 3G is released with a faster processor, more RAM, better camera, voice-control, etc. and everyone is writing it off just because it looks the same.

What are your thoughts?

Im sorry to say this but please search this has really be posted about one million times...

Those things make it a much more significant upgrade, imo, than the iPhone 3G. The 2.0 graphics (forgot exact name) as well will make the iPhone and iPhone 3G obsolete quickly in the app market.

It's the biggest update the iphone has yet to see.

Some people only give a damn about looks because they are morons.

Twice the RAM
Twice the CACHE
More Processor Power
Video Camera
Voice Control
Compass
Headphones with Volume Control
1 Extra MP on the Camera
Auto Focus
Better Batter Life

I tried to convince my self last week that this was not a good upgrade for the price.

I failed.

This upgrade blows the 3G upgrade out of the water.

So true. If the iPhone back would have changed, people would have called it a major update.

The 3G S is the biggest iPhone update ever.

The original iPhone or 3G cannot compare at all. 3G S is way superior.

The 3G hardware doesn't stand a chance compared to the 3G S.

I'll be ready for the topics when people complain about the new video games or apps that don't run well on the 3G iPhone.

If your mad that it doesn't look different, then you have it backwards. Id rather have better and faster HARDWARE than anything.

So, are you suggesting 13+ million people plus people buying the 8GB 3G being sold by Apple right now are going to left with obsolete phones?

well pretty much...... just the same as when you buy a macbook one day and the next day its a macbook pro?

No, but it won't run as well. Of course it'll work, but it might lag some.

Yeah, it's the first spec update for the iPhone in two years. That is unheard of in the tech world.

Imagine if a MacBook Pro wasn't updated for two years, and then it got twice the ram, double the CPU speed (I know the clock frequency isn't double, but everything I've read about the new CPU says it blows away the original one), and twice the hard drive space -- would you still call it an insignificant upgrade?

This upgrade shows that the iPhone has really evolved into a mature platform.

Yes...

Alright, in all reality, I mean that the old iPhone's are going to become more and more unsupported. At first, we will only see this in games (and mainly in games through time) but I will bet that a significant amount of apps by next year will use the new framework.

Some people only give a damn about looks because they are morons.

Remember, these are average Apple customers, home of the "I'm not buying it if the apple on the back doesn't light up" crowd.

And if you don't think Apple customers worry about looks, go to your local Apple Store and look at the customers around you.
