Ok, so I don't have any data to draw on, but if, for example every iPhone user was asked: "In the main, are you 1: Happy with your iPhone. Or 2: Are you unhappy with your iPhone, I'm sure the vast majority would choose 1.
The Pre will get it's niche following, but Apple has one big weapon in their favour - the iPhone brand.
In a recent UK National newspaper poll, people were asked to name their top ten brands. People could have chosen anything(Coca-Cola, Ford, Ferrari, whatever), but iPhone, came out on top. Not Apple(which was also in the top 5), but iPhone.
In the eyes of the masses(which, I'm sure accounts for the overwhelming majority of users), the iPhone will be on top for a while, regardless what Palm or anyone else can conjure up.

I am a Sprint customer and sure, I am very interested in seeing this device "live". It does look great in videos, but the proof is in the pudding.

The reasons the Pre looks good to me - multitasking, physical keyboard and phone call quality. That last reason is why I do not have an iPhone now. Believe me, I have tried to have one, tried to talk myself into having one, tried to believe that the call quality will change - but my cell is my business phone and the iPhone with ATT's service $ucked at my house which is also my home office - and plenty of people here in Austin TX complain about the service overall. So, I am planning on getting the Pre, then waiting to see what Apple intros later this year and then see if ATT's service can keep up. My Sprint service is perfect - and I even have free data - but I still love the iPhone!
