Bad battery culprit confirmed by myself over an extensive experiment

Hi everyone, to whom this may appeal, I will share a bit of knowledge on my LAUNCH 3Gs' (serial number under XX937XXXXXX) battery life through updates.

Firstly I'd like to share that on 3.0 and 3.0.1 I had fantastic battery life as many of you have come to expect from a phone you use so much.

Then came 3.1.2... And as many of you know there is a noticeable trend in decrease of battery life ON the 3Gs in this update... There was a supposed "error in the way the phone calculates battery percentage". Here Apple was blaming the battery indicator. That is not true. I did alot of research and tried every option out there as single variables over the course of 2 charging cycles each. (I'm obsesive and dedicated like NO OTHER, believe me) These variables included turning EVERYTHING off except 1 single feature from the following: Push, Fetch, ALL notifications off, Location Services, Wifi Off ALWAYS... And one run of the +/- week long experiment with 3G and the second run only on EDGE; brightness at 1/4 capacity. But you know my results, right? Battery dropping a recorded 10-13 percent on any variable with minimal use (say check email or use an app for 30 min)... This was done at the time that 3.1.3 had just come out but I was hoping to discover something.

I finally ended my 2 week long odyssey of dwindling battery and carrying my adapter everywhere and upgraded to 3.1.3 with a restore from BACK UP. this led the the SAME battery life problems. 3 days of testing led me to believe problems lied in rotten .plist files in the preferences folder in the iPhone filesystem, so I reset all settings and data. Same battery performance. I resotred once again and set up as a new phone, SAME battery problems. And as a last resort I restored yet again in DFU Mode, and the iPhone has been restored to it's good battery performance.

From the previous experiments and tinkering I've concluded and have gotten coroborated results from friends that 3.1.2 leaves behind trash code and some null/battery draining bug in the iPhone's flash (where the firmware installs) that doesn't go away when upgrading to new firmwares.

So, with that said and done, it's safe for me to say that most, if not all of you, using an iPhone 3Gs on iOS4 with battery problems upgraded from poor battery life on 3.1.2 to worse on 4.0... Let me guess, i'm spot on aren't I?

If you need a REAL fix and information on how to backup your contacts and info and settings and whatever crap you want to backup in order to restore your phone and set it up as new, but not lose all your stuff, I have the know-how. Look me up.

I have noticed absolutely no change in my battery life after installing iOS4.

If you have experiencing problems........

1) Those apps you see in the multitasking menu are NOT running in the background. Except for a few specific examples, those apps are simply frozen in place, and being held in memory. This does not drain your battery in any way. The only apps that could be draining your battery would be Pandora like streaming apps, or GPS using apps, and in both cases if they're active, they'll show an icon on the top right of the screen either showing the play > sign when music is playing, or an arrow that signifies your GPS is active. If you don't see those, no apps in the background are draining your battery.

2) Don't forget you are likely using the phone a lot more now that it has this cool new OS to play with. You may not think it's true, but I think a lot of people have been playing around with the new features and seeing how they work, and they're likely using it a lot more in the process.

3) Try doing a hard reset of the phone. Hold down the lock and home button at the same time until you see the white apple logo pop up. Let the phone sit for a few minutes, and see if anything changes. Don't be afraid to do this a few times if necessary. It might help.
