I haven't had an iphone for a while, (i will be going back this sept) but would these data packets be anything to do with the story a while ago of your location info being sent back to apple?

No, Apple said those transfers only happened over WiFi.

iPhone 4 and 4S

I am seeing this as well on three iPhone 4 units and an iPhone 4S.

There is a second Diagnostic and Usage On/Off under Location Services - System Services.

the odd thing is that two of the four phones only have a couple of non-stock apps loaded - and two of the phones are very lightly used as primarily phones - and yet one of the three is using close to or more than 200MB a month - and it is NOT used for GPS navigation or browsing the web or checking email except when at home connected to WiFi.

My iPhone 4S bought in November has a self report of data usage send and receive totaling about 400MB. Yet my current data usage on AT&T site for 20 days in the current cycle is already at about 380MB.

Would be nice to have some break down of what is sending how much data in order to take appropriate steps to limit depending on what the app is.
