I recently had my iPhone 3GS 8GB replaced at the Apple store because of a faulty power button (and cracks near the headphone jack and dock connector). I noticed that if I slap (with my hand) my replacement iPhone 3GS, it says "No SIM Card Installed" and then it goes away and about 10 seconds later, it shows an AT&T 3G connection. This is odd. Is it a hardware issue? Is it relevant that my iPhone is jailbroken (greenpois0n rc6)?

Your 3GS has cracks already? I've had mine for a really long time and I don't have any cracks on mine ...

Are you slapping it with the case on or off? I know if I pry the upper part of my case, I get the no sim thing too. but it shortly returns after.

Without the case. Also, if I set it down on a table a little too hard, it will do it. My camera is dead. When I charge it up, I will take a video and upload a video showing the issue.

I don't think JB has anything to do with it. Have you tried reseating the sim?

So far it sounds like a hardware issue.

It does sound like a hardware issue. Some part of the sim or tray probably is not seating propery in the slot. If you can duplicate it easily, I would take it back.

I just realized that there is another way that I can reproduce this issue. If I press on the upper lefthand corner of the display, it says "No SIM card installed".

My computer repair is complete. I will pick it up today. I made an appointment for my iPhone at 4:10 PM MST. I also noticed that if I push on the upper righthand corner of the phone, the display will go white until I hit the lock button and then unlock it. I think this will be replaced.

They replaced it yesterday. Here's a thread about it. I accidentally dropped it from about waist-height earlier today, and it said "No SIM card installed." I was thinking "OH NO!!!" And then I took my SIM ejector tool that I put on my keychain and reseated the SIM card and it was all good.
