... Competition is good. It'll cause Apple to make better products. Without competitors products will stagnate, like IE6 in the windows world....

Strange analogy - considering Firefox was ample competition for IE in those days ... and still is ... resulting in two successive upgrades to Microsoft's browser. Maybe you missed the memo: IE 8 was released a little while ago?

Palm is getting better and better, obviously, and I wonder how much of this was due to the former Apple employees, who jumped ship – presumably because there's a lot more room at Palm for improvements, and with each jump up there's a bonus.

I'm fairly happy with my iPhone 3GS but the upgrade from the 3G wasn't that spectacular: no multi-tasking, no xenon-flash and only a 3 mega pixel camera (just a few examples).

In fact, when the next iPhone doesn't offer a much better camera, one with a flash... then a lot of people will be gone. Including me.

Before firefox came out.

Sales have to pick up first (for the Pre.)

We have no idea what the next iPhone will be like. Remember, we're talking about Apple here . . .

And I completely agree with you on the "Apple factor" in the Pre's success. The Palm dev team and management team is full of former Apple talent.

Palm Pre user here...and I think the article left off the fact:

This is the highest satisfactory rating for a Palm device every since this group has been doing this survey.

Well ***** done Palm

I understand this is a Mac site, but really, the multitasking/notifications alone would never make me glance at Mobile OSX without an update to match or go above how this is on the Pre right now.

Two great phone choices for people....throw in Android and you have the trifecta in touchscreen devices.

Microsoft better pull something phenomenal out for Windows Mobile 7. (looking at the Zune HD, i'm hoping they collaborated with that team).

I'm just waiting for a bunch of the Pres to start breaking like crazy. Every palm I've ever had has died within a matter of months.

Seems odd to compare a 3rd Gen Phone to a 1st Gen Phone
I wonder how the iPhone 2G would compare to the Palm Pre . . . .

Got to agree, when I compared the iPhone 3GS to the PalmPre 8th generation model that came out in 2015, the Pre came out way ahead. .. go to go now, the flux capacitor is running low, barely enough juice to get back home.

Well, remember when the 1st generation iPhone was out, we all had "Planet of the Apes" class of phones. The iPhone was easily 10 to 15 years ahead of everything else. Now, companies can get the ideas and cut that lead down a lot.

Not in Asia though. In most countries in Asia the iPhone is a joke.
