its not the connection i can connect into the phone through the tunnel, but after putting in the commands, it says that the app is not installed

did you do the installous command first?

did you do both commands?

was appsync the last thing you installed before your phone did this?

are you on firmware 4.0.x?

i did run both commands
yes it was
4.0.1

are you using cygwin? all i can tell you is, try to match my tutorial as closely as possible to eliminate any unpredictable errors. im afraid ive only got this figured out as far as ive explained.

i hav tried that prog and others.
i wonder if there is another app doing this
or maybe a why to manually take it out

ok guys i got it working.
this is how, if u tried the commands and it did not work, then goto http://cydia.hackulo.us/ and download installous (4.2-1) and appsync40 (1.0.2).
after that download ifunbox http://www.i-funbox.com/.
open ifunbox and drag installous (4.2-1) and appsync40 (1.0.2) to the cydia app install folder, then restart ur phone.
hope that helps

Thanks so much! I love you! It works!

wait, dont restore you phone, i found the fix... Give me a few minutes to explain in detail.

First, go into your router settings and see if you iphone is connecting to it. Also you need to have had ssh installed on you phone.

Next install an ssh deally on you computer. Use this tutorial here:
http://lifehacker.com/#!205090/geek-to-live--set-up-a-personal-home-ssh-server
(ignore the disable ssh protocol 1 thing, you dont need to bother)

after you get to "the cygwin sshd service was started successfully." then:

In the cygwin command thing type:
ssh root@[your iphones ip address] dpkg -r com.sinfuliphone.installous4
then
ssh root@[your iphones ip address] dpkg -r com.sinfuliphone.appsync4

(by the way yes you need to uninstall installous first or appsync won't uninstall)
get your iphones ip address from your router settings. dont type the []'s
it will ask for a password. It will probably be "alpine" unless you changed it.
After this is should work. I rebooted mine and it worked just before it rebooted, so maybe you dont even need to.

If you dont get a response from the ssh commands, double check the ip address. Otherwise you might not have ssh installed and youre pretty much out of luck.

i had exactly same problem today after updating on cydia and i did the above in terminal on winscp and my phone works again! Woooohoooo! I thought i had lost all my data numbers photos everything! God bless you, please give me your paypal address and ill forward you like £5. Thanks i love you!

I tried to use cygwin program and it did not work for me. It kept saying command not found. Then I followed these directions using Winscp and it finally released my phone! Thanks so much!!! Does anyone know what is causing this problem for so many people??

Same here. For some reason it wouldn't let me enter a password when I was using the cygwin program. The ifunbox way seems worked like a charm though. Thanks a lot for this thread and those who have been contributing to help fix the problem.

Thank you SO MUCH! This worked when nothing else could. Luckily I had ssh installed otherwise I'd be out of luck.

Also, how could such a bad update get released? I wont be downloading anything from sinfuliphone again.

OK guv I need you to work with me on this:
(first and foremost - you're a genius, now let's see if you manage to help me too)

As far as I know I had SHH installed (SBTools always showed me the option to de/activate it so..).
Question:
1.I don't know how to check if the iphone is connecting to the my home wifi network and i find it hard to believe it does as it's barely loading (doesn't go past the apple logo screen). how can I be certain?

2. I'm running windows, is this gonna be a problem?isn't there any iFile sort of thing that can run those command lines and uninstall AppSync with SSH? I tried DiskAid just to see if it recognizes the device. alas, bollocks it does :)

if installed
use ifunbox's tcp tunnelling on win
or usbmuxd on linux

Posts like this do a better job of warning people off pirate software than any admonition by me or the forum rules.
I don't know if the pirates add malicious code, but it could be more of a case of them not being the most competent; they could've screwed up the software. Either way, it's not worth the effort for me. But if you're a cheap bastard/bitch . . .
I kinda figured, and that's another good reason why I don't have any pirate crap on my phone. That kind of stuff always makes me nervous, as you don't know what's been "added" to it by the hacker.

Thanks for that. I look at it this way, sure, I can save $.99 on an app and download a cracked version, but if it's been cracked, it's totally possible and highly probable that the person who cracked the app also added some type of malicious code to it that transmits your data, steals your info, passwords, etc. It's only common sense to me. Can't speak for everyone though!

I think it would be difficult to hide malicious code in a cracked app and still have it work. The App Store apps are designed to work in a jailed environment. Cracking only allows an app to show up as if it's registered. From what I've read in similar threads it still has to obey Apple's rules like normal App Store files.

Cydia apps are allowed to function outside the standard rules so, in theory, I think code hidden in a Cydia package would have the potential to do more harm compared to a cracked App Store package.

At least this how I understand that topic. I could be wrong so, anyone, please feel free to correct me.

To Darktrine

M8 that worked like a charm.

Thank You Very Much,

It also happened to my Iphone 4.01 after a Cydia update today on Feb 18th 2011

None of that is valid. A cracked app can contain malicious code just as easily as a Cydia app. Just assume anything can contain malware and proceed with appropriate caution.

In the legitimate sources, I proceed as though I'm d/l an app from the app store; it doesn't do good for cydia if d/l a legit version of MyWi or TetherMe contains malicious code.
However, it's when you d/l pirate software--such as what the original poster did--that you have to worry about malicious code and software screwing up your jb.

Actually, it was because the poster d/l from a pirate cydia source.

This happened to me too but it was after installing PDANet and not Installous. Anyway putting the phone in DFU and restoring did the trick. Haven't installed PDANet back on yet.

You had a problem with installing the legit or pirate version of PDAnet? If it was the pirated version, why don't you install the legit version? AFAIK, it's free unless you want to access secured sites.
