iphone 4 and magnets

Hi everyone
At school a mate of mine in woodwork has made a coffee table with an ipod dock in it, he has developed a contraption which has a metal piece on the iphone silicone case and a cabinet type magnet on the table it self to hold it, he just wanted to check will this affect the workings of the iphone 4 or mess anything up?

It shouldn't do as long as the magnets are not SUPER strong.

Yes I mean those cabinet type ones, that you often see in your kitchen etc. Will it effect the compass permanantly or just while the magnet is next to it?
