Been thinking of taking the iPhone plunge, but battery life is sort of an issue (there seems to be many different opinions, no general consensus which worries me). At the moment my BB 8330 gets about 3 days off of one battery charge (with casual to frequent web browsing, app usage and about 30-50 texts a day).

See, this is what I thought. May I ask what you're doing with your phone, though?

That's heavy web browsing, playing games, calling n txting. I Dnt use any navigation software or Bluetooth.

Hardly ever on 3G, nearly always wifi.

8-10hrs is usual. That's with between 20-25 hours standby.

Lol, these people expecting miracles from their battery. I use a 3GS and I would absolutely KILL for iPhone 4 battery life, but even so I manage to make my phone last 1-2, sometimes 3 days before a charge, maybe less than a day if I'm away from a computer all day and need to keep in touch with people. Seriously people, the iPhone 4 has one of the best battery stats from a smartphone today. Be happy :D

Is this your first iPhone.

Actually, is this his first SMARTphone. Period.

6 hours! Are you crazy! I barely got 2 hours of use form my Blackberry Bold with heavy usage. And the blackberry has no apps or games really and a 2.6" screen.

This guy is nuts.

a 300mhz phone from 2007 with a crappy 2.5 inch display at 320x240.

Sure. I got a Motorola L6i. I got about a week out of that.

My Blackberry Bold 9000 (same resolution as the iPhone 3G) barely got through a day of use.

The iPhone 4 has a 3.5" display at 640x960 pixels and a 1ghz processor. The browser is a million miles away from the most modern Blackberry. It downloads a huge page because it's on full java and it displays as it would in your computer.

Getting 6 hours out of that is an amazing accomplishment by Apple.

Rule #1 for iPhone users, the first thing you should get is a charging kit. I got a USB for my laptop, a car charger (i threw away the cigarette lighter) and i put the charger that came with it next to my bed.

I'm going to say this one more time.

No. This is not my first iPhone. Which means it's not my first smart phone. I've owned a 3G before this.

The reason I started this thread was because almost everything I've read has said that I get a short battery life. However, that's probably because I watch a lot of Youtube and play a lot of 2D/3D games.

While 6 hours is definitely good, it's not what was promised, which is why I was worried. But as I just said, it's because of the things I do with my phone. I think.

What exactly were you promised? Apple.com says you'll get 6 hrs of 3G and, 10 hours of video (not from YouTube), and mentions nothing about gaming, which is probably far more battery intensive since you play online. Where exactly were you promised anything different?

Yeah, I wasn't clear with what I meant. I assumed I'd get an average of ~8 hours no matter what I'm doing. This was obviously incredibly stupid. :p

On a side note, I just played Gangstar (terrible game...) for 20 minutes. Brightness on half, Bluetooth off, 3G on and connected, wifi on and connected, push emails on. And I lost 8%. Would this be considered normal? This was the first time I actually recorded my times. Everything else I've said have been estimates.

I think yes. 8% is good.

It's OK if you were confused.

The iPhone is not a miracle phone. It's just a smart phone. It does better than a lot of phones, but to be honest, many other phones coming out with Android have as good a battery life as the iPhone 4.

That being said, they are all about the same average.

Being on the internet sucks up a LOT of juice out of the battery, so really, all they can give you are estimates. Maybe you say you were on the internet for 6 hours before yours died.

Maybe I say I could only make it 5 1/2 hours. But, what exactly were we doing? Also, out phones are set up differently and we have different apps running. I also have push mail and never turn off my cellular data. It's on 3G 24 hours a day on push.

I also like to watch YouTube.

Doing YouTube on my Blackberry Bold 9000 gave me a few videos and a little more browsing. It was all downhill from there.

I was really amazed that I could browse the internet for over 5 hours on the iPhone 4.

It's a tiny battery, it's a big bright screen, and when it's working a lot it gets HOT.

So, making it 6 hours is awesome.

Here's what I did. I turned off the stupid percentage next to the battery. I was getting ****ing obsessed about it.

All I want really is the phone to get me through a whole day. The iPhone certainly does that.

If you're a heavy user, keep a charger kit in your car. Charge on the way home.
