Several readers have reported that the iPhone 4 does make good on its promise of increased upload speeds over 3G. ZDNet posted some comparisons between the iPhone 3G and iPhone 4 using Speedtest.
I started noticing this on Thursday after I picked up the iPhone 4. The first bandwidth speed tests that I ran showed that I was getting much higher bandwidth numbers that I was used to seeing on AT&T. I was getting over 2 Mbps on downloads and over 700K on uploads.
The ZDNet author was unable to replicate the signal loss issue at his location (Louisville, Kentucky). How much you might individually benefit from the improved HSUPA depends on the status of your AT&T wireless network in your area.

That is one hell of an improvement! Massively reduced latency too.

Nice!

Edit: what's the navigation style arrow in the menu bar on the iPhone 4 screen shot out of interest?

I believe that the arrow means that the gps is active.

I might be off here but I believe it indicates geo location services are in use.

Aah, thanks! :)

I am in Columbus, OH and I am getting 4.96 down, 1.62 up, 243 ping. I am amazed. That's double the down and 5x the up I got with my 3G.

Hell that is fast!

I have full bars and I get this over 3G:

2978 ping
2311 down
1280 up

What's wrong?

I see huge improvements in 3G upload vs. 3GS... it's true. Download is similar to the 3GS, not faster really. However if I lightly grip the phone in my left hand with skin touching the lower left black line you can watch the speeds plummet in real time with this same speedtest application.

Also in regards to 802.11n 2.4 ghz WiFi I am seeing SLOWER speeds on the iPhone 4 vs. 3GS... although still much faster than 3G of course. Those speeds are hardly if any affected by gripping the phone in my left hand however.

good.. people on the forum said it must have to do with the ram or something else but hey I was right... they changed the 3g chip they use and I am not going crazy when I said thing seem much faster
