Definitely true. I can upload huge images in less than 2 secs! <3

My numbers are much better on iphone4

At my home in downtown Chicago, my iphone 3G was getting 400-1200 down, but always showing 50k up. I have run several test and consistently getting around 3400 down and 800k up.

My results after 8 tests...

The surprising thing for me is that I live in a small southern Utah town and I'm still getting crazy fast speeds. I was never able to get over 400-500kbps down 80-90kbps up with WAY high latency, then about a week before the 4 was released my 3GS started consistently getting about 1400kbps down 100kbps up. The day after I got my 4, on the 25th, I remembered to test it and the very first test I ran was 2800kbps down 1500kbps up, needless to say I was absolutely blown away.

I know everyone likes to post the highest speed they've received but an average of multiple tests is a far more accurate representation. I just ran 8 tests and the best was 3532kbps down 1630kbps up and the worst was 2770kbps down 1501kbps up. 4 of the 8 were above 3Mbps down 1.5Mbps up and 4 were below that but only by a couple hundred kbps. My upload never deviated by more than 129kbps.

I can't believe how fast AT&T's 3G network is now. I'd be really interested in knowing how much is from network improvements compared to improvements from the new antenna design. If it means getting speeds like this, I'll GLADLY accept not being able to touch one small portion of the side of the phone. Especially considering it'll be a complete non issue when I get my bumper case. For once I'm actually proud of AT&T's network, Sprint can screw off with their almost non-existent "4G" that requires you to pay the extra $$$ for it every month if you use a compatible phone whether or not it'll be years until you can actually take advantage of it. (I'm speaking from experience by the way, I owned an Evo for a week before it drove me crazy and I returned it. Through a Microcell

Has anyone tried this through an ATT Microcell - does the speed increases down and up remain, or is the 56kbps cap on upload still in effect?

I'm shocked at how slow ATT's 3G is. On my Nexus One with T-mobile, tethering to my notebook, I'm constantly getting 6.2Mbps down and 1.8Mbps up and I get unlimited down on my plan as well (well 10GB is the cap really thats what I hear).

I know Att is supposed to upgrade their 3G service by the end of the year though so perhaps it will catch up with T-mobile at the end of this year.

Seriously?!?! Where I'm living these speeds are unheard of, your comment in all honestly pisses me off, not cuz you're criticizing ATT but because I have to pay $80 a month for 2mbps of DSL at my HOUSE! I would kill to get those speeds right now! Looks like someone has mastered the art of Bullshido...:p

3GS in San Francisco

My results in downtown San Francisco. high-rise corner office, near 1st and Market Street, right next to window:

10am: Download 455 kbps, upload 79 kbps, ping 526 ms
11am: Download 486 kbps, upload 43 kbps, ping 1977 ms
12pm: Download 32 kbps, upload 6 kbps, ping 3043 ms

At home last night, on wifi, at far end of the house:

Download 5702 kbps, upload 3578 kbps, ping 93 ms

This is why I'm holding off on the iPhone 4. AT&T still sucks in San Francisco.

i am in Century City, in Los Angeles. these are the speeds from the phone lying on my desk.

If you've got data to back this up, please send it to Steve Jobs, who assures everyone that AT&T has the fastest network. Spreading the iPhone load across all U.S. GSM networks is the quickest solution to network performance issues.

here are a couple of tests i've done - the faster one is this morning in NYC - chelsea the other is from bklyn. the speeds are incredible.
