I'm seriously amazed at how people are like, "Its glass, I dropped it and it broke?! " Umm the it's glass part, didn't give you a hint?

Let me guess but Ives said it was as strong as sapphire, seriously people use common sense.

Sorry just venting when people complain that the phone doesn't survive a toss against a wall. lol

The preview videos of the glass being bent back and forth have peoples expectations of the glass strength too high I think. When I first saw the design I immediately thought there would be a lot of broken iphones (glass front and back!)

Looks like the glass is too brittle. I thought the demo showing how much it could bend was a con as the glass on the actual phone is supported by a frame stopping the phone from bending significantly anyway.

There's a reason Apple put out these bumper cases with the iP4 - and I bet the phone's design weaknesses is exactly it.

Yes! I couldn't believe it either! They are $599 full list ... If you figure the $199 Apple replacement fee the most it could be worth is $400.

Well if you factor in taxes on a $600 full price phone and the fact there is a 3 week shipping delay or a 2-5 hour wait at the apple store aping $500 plus $200 for replacement is not a bad deal. That's $700 when it would have cost you $650 when taxes are included unless u live in one of those tax free states.

So u are only paying $50 over retail and still assume the one year warranty since you are replacing a new phone.

Sarcasm aside, no he's not:

Close, but no cigar... :)

as you can see if you hold the phone normally you will not bridge the connection. Fingers people. Not palms. We have fingers for a reason.
Yes but I am right handed, not left handed. Do you type with your left hand?
As I hold my phone in my left hand, my palm always bridges the connection. It's not a question of gripping it hard or cupping the whole phone, it's just that the one point where the phone rests on your palm is the one point where you're not supposed to touch it.

Heads up folks..... Shocking news story just coming over the wire..... If you abuse your phone, it might break! I know it's a total shocker but it's true!

Wow seems like the iPhone 4 is very fragile. Invest in a case people

I dropped my 3G and 3GS plenty times with no issues

If you read the post I was looking to buy it and thats how the pic was sent to me. The friend of my friend said he wanted $580 for it! I offered way less and he ended up selling it for $500 to someone ... Not me not for $500.

replace screen, sell on eBay for 1200+. I guess the buyer and myself are the only people thinking outside the box here :rolleyes:

every time i see a thread like this....I wonder whose bright idea was it to use glass on the phone!!! It is a freaking phone......not a trophy to be locked up in a display! We use the phone everyday and accidents are bound to happen!!

:eek::eek:

oh my god looks like it even bent the aluminim thingy..

but there's another guy who broke his 1st or 2nd day..

iPhone 4 is reminding me of the ford pinto that had an exploding gas tank if it was rearended.

Whats up with all the phones falling in the past 3 days? I have never dropped one of my iPhones... be more careful.

I believe the surface tension (coefficient of friction is probably a better definition) on the rear glass is much less than the plastics rear of the 3GS and the aluminum of the 1st gen iphones. I have a habit of setting my iPhone on the couch next to me (leather couch) and the iPhone 4 slides much much easier than either the 3GS or 1st gen I have owned. In the last four days, the iPhone 4 has slide off the couch (onto carpeted floor) at least six times - hardly ever happened with either of the the previous models. I am going to have to attempt to change my habits. Also, I need to keep reminding myself of this condition as I am a bit more clumsy than the average person. Since the iPhone 4 slides so easy on leather, I expect it to also slide easy on other materials such as counter tops, car seats, desks, papers, etc. Heck, even the skin on my fingers and hands. I am not a fan of cases or bumpers, but I may have to become one so that I don't end up like some of these unfortunate few.

Yeah especially on the back of the phone. The front you can see why they would have to for a touch screen but do other touch screen phones use glass on the front?

You have a phone with glass on the front and back, so if you drop it, what do you expect? Maybe you should have sucked up and bought a bumper. That would have only cost you $30 instead of $200 for a new replacement, plus an extra $30 on top for a bumper so when you drop it agan, it stands a chance of surviving. Live and learn.

It's also interesting how people assume that a couple of stories on a forum mean that there is a widespread problem of phones being fragile. Rubbish. You are a minority audience, and the fact is, most people are happy with their phones and look after them.
