If you've been holding out for the iPhone 4, a few recent deals have emerged that have uncharacteristically discounted Apple's current generation iPhone. Earlier this month, a Radio Shack offered $50 off the iPhone 4 for a limited time (now over), and now Sam's Club is expected to offer a similar discount, according to a leaked memo on Engadget.
We've been tipped off to Sam's Club now offering the AT&T-locked device for a $147 fee, subject to the usual two-year agreement. This offer will run all the way until Christmas day, so if you have to have the cheapest possible fourth-gen iPhone, this'll probably be it.
The offer is only valid until Christmas, and you must be a member of Sam's Club which comes with its own annual fee.

The 16GB iPhone 4 currently retails for $199 at other outlets, and either price requires a 2 year contract with AT&T.

Clearing out stock of AT&T iPhones to make room for the crushing demand that will occur when the Verizon version is announced/released in January

So if my GF has an iPhone 3G I can buy her that phone and she will be able to transfer her account to this new one?

No, usually the contract for your current 3G has to be up for renewal.

Otherwise you'll get charged with an early termination fee.

If you sign another 2 year contract (on top of the current one) you may be able to bargain with ATT.

Call them to find out is best!

If Verizon is better where you live , just switch, claim bad service and take your number with you (no termination fee)

Good price but I would hold off a bit longer since they seem to be clearing out inventory.

So all holiday sales are "clearing out inventory"?

You might want to hold your breath until all inventory are cleared out for the annual summer iPhone release.

This isn't going to work.

We need new graphics cards *VERY* frequently. You have to offer something pretty cutting edge in that dept every half year or so.

This needs to receive a LOT of priority.

(I just like to talk crap sometimes....bear with me)

I'm fully expecting Apple to change this and be an absolute clear cut leader in graphics card offerings by mid 2011. Let's GET GOING. Now.

Is it just me or does the person who wrote that team note have poor grammar and spelling? :p

I am bearing with you...but expected to read this on the "correct" thread ;) You may want to re-post...

That memo gave me a migraine... Maybe that's why he sells phones at sam's club.

The just starting again with 2 years seems to be the default in my experience, hence I am waiting to se what is happening with Verizon before getting newer iPhones.

If you are not a member and want to buy your phone at Sams they offer a free either 24 hour or 3 day guest pass. Just go to the customer service counter and ask for it.

with the radio shack deal, you had to pay tax on the retail (unsubsidized) price of the phone. is this the same for this deal, too? if that's the case, you don't really save as much as you think you do.

Depends on how long you've had the 3G. If over a year, I would check with AT&T and see if you're eligible for the upgrade. I know I was around 18 months into my 2 year contract on my iPhone 3G and they let me buy the new one with no extra charges. Just have to sign a new contract.

AT&T is being pretty liberal right now given they know their exclusivity is about to end. Check with them.

Wow, awesome discount, I'm sure they are hoping to pickup new customers just joining to buy this phone (probably still cheaper even having to buy membership).

Ah... dude... unless you pay full price for ANY smart phone, they all carry a $2000 commitment.

I bought a factory unlocked iPhone 3GS from the Hong Kong Apple store and I use it with my discounted contract free T-Mobile account in the US.
