with the radio shack deal, you had to pay tax on the retail (unsubsidized) price of the phone. is this the same for this deal, too? if that's the case, you don't really save as much as you think you do.

It depends on what state you live in. A few states do base the tax on the full unsubsidized price. In others, it's figured on what you're actually paying.

Wow, awesome discount, I'm sure they are hoping to pickup new customers just joining to buy this phone (probably still cheaper even having to buy membership).

If you have the cash to have the iPhone and its monthly fee, does 50$ really seal the deal? I don't buy it.

Yeah but you have to purchase a sam's club membership. Add that to the cost.

And how will Walmart/ Sam's Club continue to pay such good wages if they cut out so much profit?

Well, there is ONE cheaper way. Radio Shack still will pay pretty handsomely for the 3G and 3GS on trade-in. I haven't asked them in a couple weeks (Mid November) but my local Radio Shack at that time offered me $123 trade-in on my 3G (not 3GS) to trade up to an iPhone 4. The only catch was that they don't carry the phones in the sotre, so you had to trade in the phone, then wait 2 days for your iPhone 4 to arrive in the mail. If you can go 2 days without the phone, this may be the cheapest way to do it if you are up for renewal.

I just returned from our local Sam's Club. There is no deal there on the iPhone 4. But the cell phone department is run by a concessionaire. They don't even carry the iPhone. There may be Sam's Clubs that do their own cell service, rather than farming out to a concession, but at the very least, in my town, there is no basis in fact for this rumor.

(I got in on the Radio Shack special, but we wanted to add another family member it this has been available.)

I'm in SAMs Club in the North Richland hills area and they don't have the iPhones here. They told us the target at 1101 Ira e woods dr. Grapevine tx 76081 has them...

You get free service from TM? And you get what you pay for....

T-Mobile account is $39.99 voice + $19.99 UNLIMITED data and SMS.

I also carry around a work supplied 3GS locked to AT&T. Real world use shows voice and data availability is much better on T-Mobile with the factory unlocked iPhone than the iPhone locked on AT&T.

T-Mobile's service is much better than the trolls would have you believe.

Clearing out stock of AT&T iPhones to make room for the crushing demand that will occur when the Verizon version is announced/released in January

Dream on. If you think a Verizon iPhone will be announced and/or released while millions of iPhones are eligible for return, I have a bridge you should look at. Aside of the chaos on the consumer side, imagine the reaction of ATT, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam's Club, Target and the other Apple iPhone resellers.

Anyone know of offers like this in the U.K ?

Does anyone no of any offers like this in the U.K?

Would love to be able to afford to be able to get an iPhone 3GS or 4 for my wife for Christmas!

Activation

Does anyone know if they will need to activate in the store? (Making my wife's current iPhone deactivate). In other words, can I get it as a surprise without killing her phone and activate it on the 25th.

Seriously...?

Dream on. If you think a Verizon iPhone will be announced and/or released while millions of iPhones are eligible for return, I have a bridge you should look at. Any time Apple puts out a new product, there are old ones within the return timeframe...

If you go to www.samsclub.com and search for iPhone 4, you will find a list of all the stores that carry the iPhone 4. It isn't all that many. It would good to see a report from someone who got the $147 price.

The date they have there is a day ahead... Should be Dec 24 at 11:59PM or Dec 25 at 12:00 AM.

or.. they have an in-house electronic bulletin board messaging system called Kiosk. Those last two lines could be a systems message warning that the note would be removed from the priority system on that date.

Meh. Happy with my 32 gb 3GS. Besides, if I wanted an iPhone 4, two things:
A) it's still only 32 GB
B) AT&T would rob me blind with the middle-of-contract price

Now, when Apple announces the 64 GB iPhone 5, let me know :D

My thoughts exactly. The 3GS works 99.9% and AT&T will rape me also if I break my contract. Plus I want to keep my grandfathered unlimited data.

Duh. This is xmas we're talking about.

I understand what you're trying to say, however I respectfully dissagree. Plus, I don't think they'll sell so many during the holidays that it will impact their strategy going into 2011.

But as far as this rumor, since the spelling is soo bad and the date/times don't match up, I'm taking this one with a grain of salt... how about you?
