I had my iPhone 4 in my pocket when I went on the sheikra at busch gardens. Just in case you're wondering the sheikra is a dive coaster with a 200 foot 90 degree drop that goes 70 miles an hour. After that there are some flips and corkscrews. After the ride was over I realized my iPhone wasn't in my pocket so I got my friend to call it and some guy picked up. When I went and got the phone i saw that it worked perfectly fine(except for the fact that the flash was broken) but the back was completely destroyed. I also lost my case I guess it flew off somehow but I'm
Glad the phone works. I will have pics soon but now I'm on my phone and idk how to attach a photo

Don't need to see a photo, not interesting enough.

Rollercoasters are designed to have nets at any part of the ride where any debris (hats, cell phones, earrings, etc.) flying off would fall safely into a giant net. Had the phone killed somebody, that person would have to have been in a restricted area. Workers are the only people that are allowed back there but they would not have been stupid enough to go back there while a ride is functioning. Neither OP nor the hundreds of thousands of people that carry their cell phone on roller coasters are doing anything wrong.

And in the words of Forrest Gump, "That's all I have to say about that."

I have never seen a coaster like that ever. Most coasters I've been on (which is alot as I'm a bit of an adreneline junkie) go right over the waiting line/crowd/people walking to other areas of the theme park. No nets whatsoever.
I've had all my money (change not notes) fall put my pocket once and hit people behind me and on the ground. I didn't even know untill a few people behind me approached me. Luckily they laughed about it.

That's an extreme liability risk, not having nets to protect the people. All I know is that sheikra and newer rollercoaster models have to have nets built to protect from falling debris. But one without I've actually never seen before. One stray cell phone and the entire theme park has a lawsuit on their hands.

Maybe the laws where you are are more stricter then where I am because even the newest rides here don't have nets. If anything they are getting more and more likely to hit someone on the ground.

here they are, front and back

I love how the cracks go around the cam/flash so they don't interfere with the Camera Performance :)

I highly doubt the phone could kill someone...

I had a cell phone come within INCHES of my head at Universal Studios in Orlando. We had just got off the Hulk rollercoaster when a cell phone flew down and crashed right next to my feet.

It might not have killed me but with at the speed it was travelling I'm pretty sure I would have been lucky to walk away with only a concussion if it had hit me.

Ouch, sorry to hear that OP.

Maybe safety is not a concern in the UK, but in the US, nets are required by theme parks (or law, not sure, but they are required). Too much liability if someone was to be injured.

For reference, Sheikra, Montu, and Kumba at Busch Gardens have nets and so does The Incredible Hulk roller coaster at Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida.

If there were nets then they don't perform their job very well... (see my post above).

Wow, glad you're okay. Things look like they could miss the net all together actually. I've seen sunglasses and hats up there, but never a phone.

You aren't the only one

I wish I had taken a picture of the phone though... It was mutilated.

Wow, now my speakers are broken, do you think if I get a new back and go to apple they will cover it under my warranty or do you think they will know it flew off a rollercoaster

Not in California, Knotts as well as 6 Flags and Disneyland the rides have no nets. As another poster mentioned many rides fly over passenger wasting in line. Many if these rides have little cabinets you can store your valuables in, however I wouldn't feel to secure with leaving my iPhone in some box with others passengers items. If your one of the last off the ride you might ever see your iPhone again..
