iOS4 has a software switch to lock orientation now :)

The poll was made after evidence came out that this was a real prototype, but when people were under the impression it was fake, nearly everyone thought it was ugly. I just hate seeing people in denial. The phone is good, but it's not amazing specs wise. Apple could do a lot better.
 
Starting to believe (and hope) it's coming to another USA carrier given how AT&T is being so "nice" with upgrades to lock people into another 2yr contract
 
Open standard for "facetime"

I think there's already an open published standard that does what this Apple "hack" ;) Facetime does and that works with almost all other phones having frontfacing cameras? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3G-324M

And it doesn't require Wificonnection but works just fine on 3G.

Please Apple, don't reinvent the wheel, and don't isolate your users on an island.

There's no need to "reinvent" things, at least if you "reinvent" things to being worse and proprietary. "Look! we have reinvented the weel, it's square. It's amazing... magical!"
 
And once more, Apple RAISES the bar for the whole smartphone industry to follow...the retina display, awesome battery, thinness, truly effective multitasking and FaceTime are enough reasons to put it above and beyond any other craptastic competitor out there for the next 2 years.

So...EVO who?

HTC IS DEAD. ANDROID IS DEAD. AND BURIED.

GO APPLE!
 
Is it unlocked?

I'd like to know if Apple finally unlocked iPhone for general use or it is still tied to AT&T? I am about to move to Canada for work shortly and I would buy iPhone if it is open, I'll go for Android if it is not. Or is it easy to let it unlock by someone?

its is the infrared sensor that reads when the phone is next to your face to deactivate screen while talking. you see it more with the white than the black. look closely to your existing phone and you will see a dark circle next to the ear speaker.

thats my take :)

I thought it was ugly until I saw it next to an iPhone 3GS. By itself in photos it looks huge and blocky...

Good point, there's no screen rotation lock like the iPad. I guess it's because the iPad is quite large and hard to handle for long periods of time whereas the iPhone doesn't have that problem. Haven't heard of a software option before.

Looks like I might want not a case this time around. I wouldn't want to cover up such a good-looking phone. I really hope that the glass enclosure is tough and hard to scratch up.
 
Yay, great screen on a phone with a lousy OS and attached to a phone that can't maintain a simple phone call. Yay!
 
Wow!

Really excited about this one. Looks like Apple knocked it out of the park with that display and nicely upgraded everything else at the same time.

My only (small) complaint is that it doesn't appear to have any external new mail indicator, like an LED or anything. That was one thing I was really hoping for with the new model.

And yeah, it's a great device, it's still disappointing, Apple can do a lot better. HTC certainly has.

It is a price drop.

When I bought my 3g 16 gigs was $299.
Now it's $199.

32 gig for the price of the old 16 gig price 15 months ago.

The lack of cellular based video chat is a cellular carrier problem not an apple technology issue.

Frankly for me the 1/2/3 of why this phone is a better deal for me is (1) faster processor (2) longer battery life (3) better screen.

And I'm happy they stuck with glass. The awful plastic screens on the droids we have at work make me a little sick.
 
Ive had a black 3G and currently have a black 3GS, but god damn im very very tempted to get the white one this time around, looks realllyyy niceee
 
I've only ever bought black iProducts, and was planning on getting a black iPhone 4, but the white seems like it will disguise fingerprints much better than the black...

Decisions, decisions.
