actually i do want to take indoor photos, and so happens to have fluorescent lighting. this is very disappointing. you would think on such an expensive device, they would get it right.

I can confirm this is not a problem caused by the screen shield. Without this thread, i wouldnt have noticed it. Definitely going to have to return it now

It could void your warranty to add something to the screen. The bumper is by Apple and has no cover on front or back of it. Sticking the plastic over the screen can cause some kind electro energy pulling the ink in the display to the middle. Apple like pulling stuff like this. Good luck

Green Tint

After getting my iphone replaced 9 times (4 last time were all done on the same day after checking phone after phone until I gave up) The apple store got to the conclusion that it is indeed a manufacture problem.

Of course at first they denied the problem (no? really? they denying a problem? nooooo... the antenna problem doesn't exist either! Almost like global warming... everything with apple is a conspiracy theory against them because everybody envy their amazing -NOT- products!) telling me every phone with a camera has that problem. That's when I grabbed my BF's 3GS and my 4 took the same picture at the same time and the iphone 4 came with the green tint but EUREKA the 3GS did not... even after that they kept saying it happened on every phone... so I asked 2 other customers for their phones (an Android and a blackberry) took the picture with the 4 phones at the same time... Only the iphone 4 had the tint. THEN (in a very Steve Jobs move) decided that phones are not perfect (not that they have a problem... no, that will never be accepted. phone are not perfect. we are not perfect!!! but accepting a flaw or failure NEVER... GOD does not make mistakes!) so they finally made me sign a memo that was allegedly sent to Apple in CA for them to look into this problem.

According to the "so-called" "Genius" at the store this problem looks like the same problem that they had on the first batch of phones and the yellow blotching on their displays which it was due to (another BS) one of the layers on the glass that covers the display and that according to them a week after realizing (even though everybody knew about this issue a week before the iphone was released) they switch providers for the glass and layers and the problem was solved (the yellow tint).
So it seems that the problem is on the BS.. I mean on a layer of the back glass now...

When I showed them this problem was not NEW since it has been posted left and right all over the internet they told me that they only pay attention and under consideration whatever is posted and only what is posted on the APPLE FORUMS... so, I think out best option is move to their forum and start posting insanely about this issue.

When are they going to accept that the phone has flaws that need to be addressed and solved... BUT SOLVED not PATCHED as they did with the Antenna. One of the Genius told me (when I brought the BS on the antenna) that the antenna problem was solved already. Of course he did not like the idea of me showing him how BS seemed to be fly even faster now they have the Tyson Fans on the stores, when I told him: YOU HAVE NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM! you just PATCHED IT. MAKE IT INVISIBLE. but that doesn't mean the problem is solved. Look: I don't have the problem. I remove the bumper and OH MY GOD! the problem is there again!

again when are they going to stop BSing us an fix the problems.

As i said: 9 replacement and counting. i will not stop replacing my iphone until they just see me get into the store and handle me the phone directly without even saying good morning/afternoon/night...

And lets place this problem on their forum!!!!

FFS get another type of phone if the iphone has that many "issues". Nine returns is ludicrous. I swear this forum has some of the most insane people on the net. :)

And some of the most irrational people. Hate to be that chicks Bf. Also I only ever get compliments from my ip4 pictures (that naturally are takin with ip4 camera.

Also people be creative and take a pic using that effect to your advantage. Oh also it's the lighting.

I would return it if had that issues...mines week 30 no problems..But if you return it for a new one might have 4.0.2 means no jailbreak for now..

FYI the 9 returns were not my idea nor my call. It was Apple Genius idea to go through 9 phones until gets one that doesn't show the green spot or showing it a little less.
So I guess that, if some, my only fault was not to stop them on the second one they brought and wait until the 9th came and finally said stop. Obviously this is a different problem...

Well if you didn't actually leave the store with 9 different phones? Yeah that's different.

Creative with a green spot? only if I was taking pictures of the green gobbling. :D

the 3gs does it as well. there are pics in the other threads

it's a lighting issue. all of them are going to do it. move on

I took a picture with my i4 in my office under CFL lighting and got the green spot. I then picked up my work phone (Palm Pre) and took the same picture and got the green spot. Problem solved.

+1

are you in a room with cfl or any sort of fluorescent lighting? Your mbp has a cfl backlight you know :p

fluorescent lighting will cause the green tint, the iphones lens or one of the elements tends to over exagerate it for some reason (if you look at the lens its already a green'ish tint). I noticed i have the same green tint at my office, outside no green tint. My house is mainly cfl, during the evening i can see a slight green tint against my wall, in the day with natural light no green tint on the same wall.

This is not an issue with the phone, its the type of lighting that you are in and its affect on the camera lens. I'm surprised a photographer hasn't already chimed in here on this considering how many of them are on this forum.

I dont have the green blob on my phone bur what i do have is a green horizontal line going across my video recording screen in low low light conditions its not really noticeable but you can see it and the green line is in a different spot on the camera app, im guessing its a hardware issue with the camera?

That happens to be a picture of my refrigerator, if anyone cares. So i have all 5 well known problems with the iphone so far; A sticky + button, yellow blotches, antenna issues, green spots on the camera and below average call volume...great!

Wow all five!

i bet you go through 10 phones before you can get it down to two.

Fundamental optical problem

Hi folks!

This is a fundamental optical design problem that affects virtually all phone cameras, even high-end ones like the iPhone. It is likely to be present under all lighting, but fluorescent definitely makes it worse, and current solutions can't cope with this specific case, hence any correction used ceases to be effective.

There ARE technical solutions available, but manufacturers are slow to adopt them. Most current solutions only alleviate the problem (explaining to some extent the variations between units). No point sending back under guarantee, it's not a 'fault', just a shortcoming. But it would be a good idea if we ALL lobby the manufacturers to make sure that the new generation of phones incorporates the simple, cheap technology to avoid the problem. As it is a software solution, it is just possible that some phone manufacturers might be able to include this in a firmware upgrade, but you'd have to check that out with them individually.

We should all make our voices heard and tell the manufacturers that in this upper price bracket, it is simply not acceptable that they should ignore available solutions with a low per-unit add-on cost.

Not to keep this dirt old thread going, but can anybody replicate this with iPhone 4S? I can't seem to do it. Is it the better camera, or have CFL bulbs been improved since last year?
