I like AT&T. Never had a problem with them in the past 8 years. I have had some friends on Verizon that have had issues with their service though.

In terms of service, I really don't have anything bad to say about AT&T's wireless service. There's only one bad spot in my city where I will never without fail drop a call (and it's been that way for years -- nothing to do with the iPhone). Their customer service on the other hand has much room for improvement.

I would consider switching to Verizon if they can support voice and data at the same time and if their pricing was comparable to AT&T's.

AT&T, mainly because if I unlock my phone, I can use it in many countries around the world by inserting a local SIM card.

AT&T for me. I couldn't imagine having an iPhone and not be able to talk and browse at the same time. I'm very happy with their coverage too. Just about anywhere I go I get good service.

The reason why I think AT&T gets bad rap is because a bulk of tech bloggers are in the NYC & San Fran areas. Which clearly are/were AT&T's worst covered areas.

I've had Sprint and Verizon and as for service I never got reception with either where I lived. I decided to switch to Cingular back then before ATT bought them over for the Razor. I finally was able to get service at home and not just 1 bar but full bars. I used to have my cousins over who had verizon and sprint and never have reception and now they all switched to ATT. I dunno why so many people complain about ATT bad service when my experience they have the best coverage where ever I traveled. But yeah to be on topic I wouldn't go to verizon if I had a choice. ATT for me.

AT&T. I prefer GSM, because people on my family plan travel overseas, and it is much easier to pop in a pre-paid local sim card and get service. Plus at this point with all the "multitasking" I do, I could never go back to a service where I couldn't be on a call and be texting or surfing the web at the same time.

Also, back in 2004 I swore I would never, ever go back to Verizon. I used to be with them for years, going all the way back to when the Motorola StarTac was the pinnacle of cellphones. I had a two line family plan, and wanted to add text messaging to the second line, so I went into the local Verizon store to get it done. I specifically asked the rep if this would affect my status, as I'd not been on contract for over a year and didn't WANT a contract. He said no, it did not, and I didn't see any documentation of the kind.

Not long thereafter I was wanting to jump ship to Cingular. I'd had a LOT of issues with my latest phone (Samsung i600) and neither the manufacturer nor Verizon much cared to assist with the trouble. Well, when I called to cancel my Verizon account, I was informed that I had to pay an ETF. Got into an argument with the rep over the phone. Got so disgusted I went right down to the store and asked to speak to the manager over the issue. Told him I signed nothing, never asked for a contract, and didn't want to be on a contract. He said it is what it is, nothing he can do. So I told him I wanted to cancel both lines, right there. As he said "you'll have to pay an ETF" I started slapping $100 bills on the counter in front of him. Expensive, but SO worth the look on his face.

If you had a carrier choice would you have got it on att or vzw?
AND WHY?

The OP is a troll or (pro-verizon/anti ATT). Check out their pro-Verizon posts.

It's so funny if one makes a poll, one should answer their own poll first, shouldn't they? I am not surprise the OP hasn't responded back to this post since they are not getting the pro-Verizon answers they wanted.

Judging from the replies (almost 3 to 1 in favor of ATT over Verizon).

They claim Verizon is more open than ATT. As long as Verizon is on CDMA, one can never claim CDMA is more open than GSM. Can't put a CDMA branded Sprint Palm Pre on Verizon's network even though Verizon was supposed to open up it's CDMA network to all CDMA phone. Verizon claims "security" reasons they disallow other network carrier CDMA phones onto their network.

Look, the main reason other countries have a choice in carriers for the iPhone is simple: They all are GSM dominant countries. They are all the same 3G bands. It's that simple. Tmobile USA and Wind (up in Canada) run weird 1700/2100 3G conections. Thus is the reason they don't get the iPhone.

Apple has decided to support GSM technology over CMDA. When Apple was introducing their test product (IE iPhone first gen), they went to Verizon first. It didn't matter if they had produced a GSM or CDMA phone with the first gen iphone. It was a test phone (and everyone knows that). But the first gen iphone became a hit and the rest is history. If the test iphone first gen would have failed, Apple would have cancel their phone plans altogether. Apple is still testing the Apple TV after 3 years (notice no major updates on that product). The first gen iPhone would have suffered the same fate if it wasn't popular.

FYI: I love Verizon FIOS, but HATE Verizon Wireless, they are still one of the most locked down, do it our way or take the highway companies. Plus I get great ATT coverage down in the Orlando area. And I travel a lot, ATT coverage is excellent to most of the places I got. I also have Tmobile, and have the advantage of having a UMA phone (BB Bold 9700) so if I am in bad reception areas, I usually can find a wifi spot and get Tmobile coverage via UMA.

First off, i was the first to poll.
I got both services , i don't really care just curious what the board thinks since i see so much att hate lately................

I would stick with AT&T.

I had Verizon for a few years before I purchased my iPhone, and was being charged an arm and a leg for service. With my vx6700 phone, my monthly bill was running $140+ a month. With the iPhone it is running $85 a month (after taxes ).

Plus there was the issue with Verizon disabling features on your phone and then charging you to activate them. For example, they charge Android users $2-$3 dollars a month just to have Visual voicemail, which AT&T provides as part of the iPhone data plan.

Verizon, just because I am on a family plan and find it cheaper to stay on that rather than go solo on AT&T and pay for a bunch of minutes I don't need.

I take it very few of you AT&T fans have actually used Verizon. Its network is infinitely better than AT&T's. I'm only with AT&T for the iPhone. The instant it's offered on Verizon, I'm gone.
You should state that the above is entirely your opinion. Just because you say it is better doesn't mean it will be better for everyone.

Verizon is limited in that you can't do calls and internet at the same time. How can you say it's better if they have that limit?

If you had a carrier choice would you have got it on att or vzw?
AND WHY?

I've never had a problem with AT&T, really. Had more drops with T-mobile, and less coverage. Plus:

  • Can do voice & data simultaneously
  • Can travel overseas and still use my phone

Verizon is great for access in the U.S. hinterlands, but not so good for data-intensive users or travelers like me.

T-mobile cause I can get a better rate through family plan, but since that wasn't an option, AT&T. I can talk and surf at the same time through 3G and 3G speed has improved.

First off, i was the first to poll jack ass, **** and understand!

You need to review your first post on this thread closely.

This is what you wrote,
"If you had a carrier choice would you have got it on att or vzw?
AND WHY?"

You made this poll. You asked the question. You never answered your own question. And I can't tell which way you voted.

So know you have made two postings on your own thread about AT&T or Verizon and the iPhone.

You state you have both verizon and AT&T. But still haven't indicated which service you would prefer the iPhone on.

You still haven't stated which carrier you would have it on and why.

So I think my accusations are clearly valid you are a verizon troll.

There's no hate in my accusations. I am merely pointing how how you started this thread and did not indicate which carrier and why you would prefer that carrier.

Verizon gets better coverage but at this point ATT gives me a discount and can have both data and voice at the same time so i'll stay with it :)
