Just saw this on Comex's Twitter account....

"Though certain people tell me geohot will probably turn around and pull out a surprise jailbreak..." Posted 5 hours ago...

I can't wait until the JB's available. I don't use it for major stuff, but I do like my UI tweaks. Right now, I'm missing Winterboard, BossPaper, and the status bar notifier. I miss them A LOT.

Am I the only one who wants to jailbreak just for the ability to disable Apples crap version of multitask that adds every app you open to the multitask bar? I heard that your already able to disable it using redsn0w but thats for the older model iPhone.

It's not like all those apps are running in the background or eating up memory...

Still some are and it's annoying seeing them all there. It would of been much better if apple just made it so they didnt automatically minimize and made it so you like had to double click inside the app for it to be put there

I had been using Backgrounder for a long time so I was accustomed to using the double press also...but I haven't used the OS4 multitasking enough yet to really form a good opinion on it.

Doesn't seem to work too much differently!

Eh Im just gonna be annoying to have to go through the extra steps to really close an app everytime I open one.

geohot is an arrogant SOB who gets his jollies from people worshiping him (which some of the posts are) and asking when he'll release a jb, as if he's the only one capable doing this. He makes these posts to jerk people around. The sooner he disappears from the jb scene, the better.

He's got a right to be. The kid's a genius.. spoiled and arrogant he may be, but unlike a lot of hollywood "celebrities", he's made a lot of contributions to have the right to be arrogant, at least in my eyes. He may not be the only person who can jailbreak, but he is one of the only people with the drive, ability, and determination to undertake something like this. Whether I like him or not, I NEED geohotz and the rest of the dev-team; I have iOS4 on my 3GS and I still can't jailbreak. My iPhone is literally useless without Installous.

Actually, some of them are. Pandora, for instance, continues to run in the background and consume about 13 MB of memory when closed even if it is not actually streaming audio. Still, the OS will manage the memory for you and close unused processes when it needs more memory. You don't need to remove them from the dock.

But wouldnt all that still be slowing down whatever else your doing, or eating up some of the battery life?

I know some of the apps consume some memory...and Pandora was one of them.

But in comparison...how much memory does Pandora eat up running with Backgrounder?

I agreed with everything you said, 100 percent, until you said, "My iPhone is literally useless without Installous."

I'm not against downloading a cracked app to try itnout when the dev doesn't offer a lite or trial version. But your statement doesn't even make sense.

once more apps support multitasking all i really want is SBSettings and MyWi.....

Yes and no. I don't have any need for Installous - or anything along the lines of the typical JB use. I need JB for my 3GS on iOS4 for one reason alone: unlock for Tmo. That's it.

Heck, I'd be happy if I could get just my 2 new iDevices activated. iTunes is taking FOREVER to activate them. Maybe by morning. :(

I can fret over jailbreaking once I actually get them working.

Or one can just close whichever apps they'd like to, if it bothers them that much.

Here's a good article illustrating the iPhone's multitasking feature: iPhone Multitasking. The feature's well-constructed, IMO.

FWIW... With each new version of the OS, I'm given less of a reason to jailbreak. As much as I'm also looking forward to the new jailbreak for a few things, I'm mostly happy with the way Apple implements their own version of what we're all looking for. Often, more elegantly.

I've activated 4 iPhone 4s in the past 36 hours, and NOT ONE activated through iTunes. I had to call for every one. By comparison, the 3GS i wiped and restored Wednesday afternoon activated through iTunes less than 2 seconds after it finished rebooting.
