Remember, this can be misleading since the number of phones made for the 24th is much larger than what can be made in a week. They have probably been manufacturing iPhones for weeks to meet the 600,000 level that they set aside for 6/24 delivery. Now they started selling phones for 7/2 delivery, which is just one week later, which means they can only sell as many as they expect to make in 1 week (maybe ~150,000) before they have to push the date back again.
Still, it's very impressive.
Good news though. They are still guaranteeing delivery of the 8GB iPhone 3GS on June 24th!
I think I could use my extra iPhone reservations to my advantage. A guy's gotta eat, too.

So every time they push the date back, it's not like they sold another 600k iPhones, but rather the number of phones they can make in x weeks since the last delivery.
Still, it's very impressive.
No wonder why the employees of Foxconn commit suicide.

It's rather unfortunate when this happens, as the people who successfully ordered yesterday will gloat conspicuously, creating unpleasant happy/unhappy threads.
