I know, they're very open about wiping the phone.
I support servers and applications for my work and the monitoring software that monitors both sends out notifications that something's wrong. I live and die by my email. I hate blackberry and I don't want to deal with two phones, so that leaves using a single smartphone that they can remote wipe.
Because I work for a hospital, they are very zealous about protecting data, and so this encryption step for smartphones is not a surprise, heck, I thought they were already doing this.
They enforced a complete 100% hard disk encryption for any laptop that connects to the network, be it a home laptop, the hospital's or a contractor's. We're a mixed mac/pc shop so there's a couple of solutions for me, like using filevault.
The iPhone looks to me like my only alternative, the key issue, is when they flip the switch and what can I do to delay the purchase of a new iPhone until the IP5 becomes available. That delay also means fighting my instant gratification need as well
