there is a plastic lip under the 30 pin connector on the 3g/s iphone mount that i filed down (maybe 1-1.5mm) and it works perfectly with my bumpered iphone. the holder actually grabs the bumper better than it did my 3g too.
re-buying isn't necessary for those with a proclip already.
I prefer ProClip because it is custom-designed for most car models to fit the dashboard very securely and in a convenient location for operation without having to look away from the road. Most of the generic mounts out there that I've seen either clip into vents (which blocks airflow and is not very sturdy) or suctions onto the windshield (which is rather far away from the seat in my car, and is illegal in some states) or just plugs into the cigarette lighter and has a stem which sticks up to hold the device (which ends up being either too low or too wobbly).
This one does not allow for a case of any kind however.
Does anyone have actual experience with the 78 mount? It does say it can swivel 360 degrees, but whether it holds the iP4 w/bumper snug is another story.
I wrote to ProClip and received these two answers concerning the mount I mentioned above:
The Bumper case holder are tight enough to allow your iPhone in a Horizontal position.
Yes. Item 511178 has an opened base bottom so that any cable can be connected directly to the phone.
Hope this helps someone in the future..

If I do replace my cheap vent vertical mount for my iPhone (bought for $11 at Best Buy), which I hope to soon, I'll be back to post pictures if anyone requests..
