Hi,

Did anyone try the vikuiti screen protector from 3M? Currently I have a belkin screen protector for my 3gs but for my iphone 4 I wanted a protection for both the front and the back. I'm very satisfied with the belkin overlay but they don't have something for the back and the only one I found in my area is the 3m vikuiti.

So... is the 3M Vikuiti any good?

Thanks.

I'm using the PS anti-glare screen. Works great, and doesn't take anything aeayfrom the renina display.

Also, when you do a dry install, I highly recommend turning off your central air, go into your bathroom, crank the shower as hot as it will go and let the steam build up THEN install your screen protector. The steam pulls the dust particles about of the air and will result in a perfect install almost every time.

I did this over the weekend. Mine always come out perfect :D You can now use scotch tape to completely cover the sticky side of the screen protector if you mess up & need to reapply it. It removes all the dust. Must be new adhesive because I was never able to do this with the old power support. It would just leave hazy residue all over the sticky side.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned SGP's screen protectors. For me, their ultra-crystal clear screen protector is so much more like the glass itself- and for me - much smoother and clearer than PS.

Plus, it hardly attracts finger-prints and easily wipes off - literally...

Im about to purchase the SGP Incredible Shield ULTRA MATTE for iPhone 4. The matte feel on the back is just sexy as. Soo nice and it includes the Ultra-Crystal Clear (dry adhesive apply) which is just really smooth and you actually can't notice it.

Necessary? No.

If you're OCD and don't want any scratches on your phone, then it becomes necessary.

I use the cheapo screen protectors off eBay. You can get sets (front & back) for about $2.

You can go with more expensive ones like Power Support, ZAGG or others but I personally don't think it's worth it to spend $20 on something that you can get for $2.

The ones I have work great and couldn't be happier with them.

I like the feeling of knowing what I do to my phone wont damage it. So because of this I like a screen protector, lets me toss my phone around a bit more than usual. Normally baby them before a protector. I've had every iPhone and everyone of them has had a PS crystal clear film. In fact my iPhone 4 has a back and front protector with a bumper. I toss it around with out a care in the world. Its a great feeling. Also resale value is a plus.

I used to keep my iphone 4 in an Otterbox Defender, then got my incase Snap Clear and used it for a day. Well, that's the day I dropped my phone when I got out of the car and it fell on the road. Did it scratch the screen? Yep, in 2 different places to boot, but one is on the bottom and the other is near but not on the camera. Phew, pretty much dodged a bullet, but yet, I still don't have a screen protector on it. Still thinking about getting one, but still debating with myself. :)

For those of you who mistakenly think that the screen is nearly scratch-proof with careful use, have a look at the number of complaints over at the Apple forums. The same can be said about the Gorilla Glass equipped Galaxy S and Droid. I have personally never scratched Gorilla Glass, but I have seen too many well maintained units with scratches to take the chance.

I despise screen protectors, even the best of them, but I am forced to use one because either the glass and/or the coating is fairly easy to scratch.

Exact same here. I never used a screen protector on my 3G but the iP4 seems to scratch easier in terms of light scratches.

Surely when you steam up the bathroom, it shall make the iPhone 4 screen misty and when you put the protector on it stays there? Or does the steam go away after a while?

No, this has not happened. Even if it did, the majority would be squeegeed out when you rub the air bubbles out, or would evaporate on it's own over time. Much like air in balloons or tires, the water/water vapor can escape over time.

I've had every iPhone since day one and not scratched any of them. I just don't put keys in my pocket with the phone, or leave it face up on my desk. I use a Speck pixelskin case which has a ridge around the display just thick enough to raise it off the surface of the desk when sitting face down. It works perfectly.

The Oleophobic coating Apple applies, is extremely durable. It's the very reason Apple no longer sells screen protectors in Apple Stores.

Most screen protectors affect the phones responsiveness to input just enough to take away the crisp feel and fast response time. A detractor I'm not willing to live with.

Not true on all accounts.

My Apple store carries screen protectors, and the one I bought there is the best one I've ever had. Very fingerprint resistant--enough where I usually don't think to do the nightly screen wipe with a micro fiber cloth. Also did not bubble up hardly at all when I put my Grip Vue case on it--just one tiny little spot in the top corner. It also has not in any way effected the responsiveness of my screen. I wish I could remember the brand as I don't have the box anymore--they were about $14 and came in a two pack.

Also, the oleophobic coating is certainly scratchable. I scratched mine simply by setting it down gently on the bathroom sink top. Luckily for me (or some would say not so luckily) I had other problems with my phone and had to have it replaced, so no more scratches now that it never leaves the Grip Vue case.

EDIT: Forgot to mention--I will always avoid the ZAGG protectors because they require you to spray the protector with a liquid and bubble up VERY easily when you use them with a protective case. I would also avoid the cases that slide on--my first case was the iFrogz slide on case and it scratched the hell out of the antenna of my first iPhone 4 (another thing that was remedied by getting a replacement phone!)

I've installed a LOT of screen protectors using the shower steam method and never set off a single moisture sensor. EDIT: not saying it isn't possible, just that it seems unlikely.

You don't have to make it like a sauna, just let it get good and steamed, turn the shower off and apply your protector. You should also have a small piece of tape with you just incase some dust gets on the protector during installation.

I just installed that very protector today - not impressed at all. First - it does not adhere around the home button or the earpiece or several areas at the edge (top / bottom / both sides). It also is a fingerprint magnet.

Perhaps something magical will happen overnight, but at this point I am going to try a different brand and perhaps go matte.

Bodyguradz Dry Apply iPhone 4

I would say yes you need a screen protector. Within a week a had a small scratch on my iphone 4 screen.

I read a lot of reviews and videos and ended up with the Bodyguardz Dry Apply (front only). Retails for $14.95. It comes with 2 screen protectors. I am very happy with it. Installed in several minutes, no bubbles. Screen looks great.

Did you get the Ultra Matte? Or just the Ultra Crystal Set? The Matte back is nice; and i'll promise you this, the back does not attract fingerprints due to its texture of 'matte'.

I just ordered 3 High Transparency screen guards + 1 matte finish screen guard from MonoPrice.

Under $5 shipped.

I'll post some impressions when they get here.

It is the ultra Crystal Skin Guard set - Ultra crystal on front and carbon fiber skin for the back.

The screen protector is horrible - I guess I'll try PS this week.

Got the Monoprice screen shields and they worked perfectly. Gotta love'em for less than $1 each.

Used the High transparency shield for the front. Fits perfectly.

Used the matte finish shield to cut out a piece to cover the Apple logo on the back, used it under a carbon fiber skin, perfect!

Great packaging and each shield came with a cleaning cloth.
