Why can't you guys just wait until stuff officially comes out?

because its fun to get things early.

plus, the GM version is the Official Final version and was released by Apple to developers, so it has been officially released. If Apple really cared, they would require you yo verify your iPhone/iPad before you install it, but the GM doesn't require you to, so its fine (this is not a beta)

Why are these noobs installing things they don't know anything about?

Probably to show their friends.

The firmware version might be the final GM but on this occasion the same cannot be said of iTunes and most likely the activation servers for this release....

I went with the 4.1 GM early but i'm holding off 4.2 because of the iTunes things

I think the error on iPhone 4s that is looping and is impossible to get out of without downgrading to 4.1 might be caused by having a factory unlocked iPhone. I have seen this issue replicated on 3 different iPhone 4s that are factory unlocked. It is possible that the iTunes 10 beta/iTunes servers have not been updated to deal with unlocking requests yet.

I've just found a way to solve this.

I was getting the 1013 error with iTunes and my MacBook Pro 15" mid 2009, but I try to restore 4.2 with a Windows PC, and IT WORKS!.

Solution: Try with another computer...

I was a little nervous for a while that I put my phone into a useless state but then I figured it out with a little help from this forum. Thanks! Let me tell you my story and hopefully it will help someone.

I had the same error 1013 after a botched upgrade to 4.2 running the itunes 10.1 Beta. I tried to use Tiny Umbrella to exit the recovery mode but was unable to successfully do so. It just kept rebooting to the plug into itunes screen.

I then attempted to revert to iOS 4.1 but was met with another error 1004 on restore. At this point I thought I was screwed. I then used TinyUmbrella again to exit recovery mode which worked. Good news, I was set back to useable 4.1 iPhone.

For whatever reason I wanted to give it one more try so I upgraded to 4.2 again. Same error 1013 , however, I this time I was able to use TinyUmbrella to successfully exit recovery mode which allowed me then to restore my backup to the phone.

I'm happy I stuck with it. The airplay integration in 4.2 is sick! I now can easily use a Airport Express to stream podcast to areas of my apartment like the bathroom etc. with ease. Love it! Airplay for audio works anywhere there is an audio slider. iTunes store streaming, Pandora, Remote App, you name it. Great addition to an already amazing phone. I'm now really interested in the new AppleTV and the upcoming AirPlay equipped third party speakers.

I did not know that betas were only for developers before I 'screwed' up my iphone 4 by getting so far to error 10 then i did some research and found this article and found tinyumbrella and restored till I got error 1004 then used it and it worked perfectly!:apple:

Error 1004 by recovery?

Me too, i use TinyUmbrella and the phone is run again... so i recommend TinyUmbrella 4.1.13 this is the new version, run very good in windows! :D Good luck!!!
